From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto ... My Dear Friends,

Today’s Gospel continues the favorite topic of Jesus: LOVE! Please notice the promise of Jesus: “Anyone who loves me...My Father will love Him and will come to him and dwell with Him always.” What a powerful promise! Yet sometimes we do not even raise our affection to God, and,

more often than not, we seldom remember God during our week. Do we greet God as soon as we wake up in the morning? Do we thank God for the gift of the day before closing our eyes at night? Do we gratefully acknowledge God’s assistance when something dear to our minds gets accomplished successfully? Do we joyfully accept from God our food before sitting down to eat? Do we call for God’s company when we feel lonely, useless, manipulated or rejected by others? Let us resolve to lead a life of union with God. Our guardian angel will make sure that we will receive many daily invitations to raise our minds to God.

One of my favorite sentences of Jesus can be found in John’s Gospel: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” (John 14:1) Often it does seem that we live under stress, pressure, panic, anxiety or fear! For example, have you had some anxious moments when the stock market fell, when you lost a job, when taxes went up, or, even more commonly, when traffic gets clogged, or fuel prices keep getting higher!

How many times we go about our business with a frown on our faces, sadness in our hearts, and totally absorbed in our own real or perceived misfortunes? Sometimes we feel we are between a rock and a hard place, trapped in a dead end corner of the soul, and fears assail us on every side!

Jesus’ exhortation: “Do not be fearful” should ring true to us in these frightening moments: Jesus is carrying us in the palms of His hands, and He forgives us over and over again. One Friday, when I was teaching in our school, a 7th grade student in Religion Class asked me: “How can Jesus be so forgiving?” Because He is crazy in love with us and does not want us to be turned away from Him because of fear!

One morning a lady stopped me and asked: “Father Fausto, would you be kind enough to give me your pill?” ...When she saw my puzzled face, she said: “I mean Father, every time I see you you're always peaceful and happy; how can you always be smiling and so happy?” I answered: “My dear friend, my pill is the wafer of Holy Communion! If we receive Jesus daily, then even if we sometimes fail Him, we will have that peace of mind that no material possession can give!” If Jesus is with me, who can be against me? And, as Jesus said, we should not be afraid of those who can kill our bodies, but cannot kill our immortal souls! Fear is useless; what is needed is trust in God.

In 2003, the Bishops of the Province of Florida transferred the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord from Thursday to next Sunday (Seventh Sunday of

MAY 26, 2019 PSALTER WEEK II

Easter). For this reason, we will not celebrate the Feast of the Ascension on Thursday, May 30, and the Mass schedule is the same as on any other day, with Masses at 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., Noon and 5:30 p.m.

Our School will close its school year 2018-2019 on Friday, May 31 with a Thanksgiving Mass at 8:15 a.m.

Congrats to our St. Martha and St. Mary 8th Grade class graduates. Please pray for these young students. They are the future of our church and of our nation.

Next Sunday is Caritas Sunday, and the members of Caritas (all volunteers) seek your donations at the doors of the church to help them to continue to assist the needy of our area. Caritas depends on your generosity, and thanks you many times over, they couldn’t do it without you! This past month you generously donated $3,386.74.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Monday, May 27 is a civic holiday commemorating all of our heroes who died so that we Americans may continue to enjoy our freedoms (religion, press, vote, expression, etc.) We honor them with our prayers and with our personal fight against all those who desire to take them away from us: Freedom is not free unless we keep it and defend it. Out office will be closed tomorrow, May 27.

Traditionally, Memorial Day marks the official beginning of vacation season for all Americans (high or

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Through websites, social networks, television, radio,

and print, the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) helps the Church spread the Gospel message through the media locally, nationally and internationally. CCC makes possible media campaigns supporting marriage, family communications and reconciliation, reaching millions on radio and television.

CCC funds also support communications projects in developing areas of the world where the Church is growing but lacking in resources. The CCC supports the scholarship programs which provide funds for training Catholic Communicators from developing countries so that they have the tools necessary to spread the Gospel message in the 21st century. Locally, the CCC, together with generous donations, make it possible to continue the weekly televised Masses here in the Diocese of Venice. Many of our elderly and shut-ins find this a true consolation.

The Diocese of Venice will take up the collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign the weekend of June 1 and 2, 2019. Please prayerfully consider supporting the collection this year. A full 50% of collected funds stay right here in the Diocese of Venice, while the other 50% of funds support communications projects around the world. Thank you for your generosity!

I take this opportunity to extend to you my continued consideration and my prayers! May God bless you abundantly.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

+ Frank J. Dewane Bishop of the Diocese of
