“Lean” has been a hot topic in management in the first decade of the 21stcentury. It is renowned for its focus on reduction of wastes in order to improveoverall customer value. For many, Lean is the set of “tools” that assist in theidentification and then steady elimination of waste, which improves quality andreduces production time and costs. For others, Lean is the focus of implementingthe flow or smoothness of work through the system and not upon “waste reduc-tion” per se. The difference between these two approaches is not the goal but theprime approach to achieving it. In order to help local businesses adopt the Lean method, Iowa Valley Continu-ing Education will be hosting “Iowa Lean and Growing, Become a Leader” onMay 8. This is a day-long conference to help you learn how to transform yourorganization into a Lean enterprise. You will learn the tools to help your organiza-tion become more flexible and efficient, learn the best practices for implementingLean, and develop a network of peers. This conference is intended for managers and process improvement roles inthe following segments: government, education, healthcare, business (all sizes),and service industry. Keynote speakers include Seth Davies, senior consultant, Competitive Solu-tions, Inc. and Dale Crownover, president and CEO Texas Nameplate Company,Inc. Seth has over 17 years experience in the consulting and training arena and is aconsultant delivering business solutions to organizations. He will focus on the leanmanagement role of an organization to create, emulate, communicate and rein-force the non-negotiable strategies necessary to sustain business success. Dale holds the position of president for this 43-person, family-owned businessthat makes nameplates. His presentation will help you understand and create acontinuous improvement culture, what the essentials are for developing a Leanculture, and how to translate belief into action.
Iowa Lean and Growing The conference will also include these breakout sessions: Navigating Change,The Lean Toolkit, Aligning Your Organization for Success, and the Visual Work-place. The cost is $95 and lunch is provided. For more information about theconference or to register, contact Iowa Valley Continuing Education, 800-284-4823 or 641-752-4645, or online at www.iowavalley.edu/ivce. The benefits of lean are out there. Organizations have proven over and overagain how implementing lean has helped them become more competitive andmore efficient. They have demonstrated increased productivity, customer service, and employee satisfaction and retention. Don’t miss this opportunity to see howadopting Lean can help your organization.
