• There are many different careers available to Marines, but before you can serve, you need to know how to join the Marines.

Officer Vs Enlisted

• Before you can join the Marine Corps, you need to decide whether you want to become an officer or a member of the enlisted corps.

• Typically Marines with college degrees become officers, however enlisted Marines can also have a college degree.

Officer Vs Enlisted

• Officers and senior enlisted Marines are typically the leaders and supervisors of the enlisted corps.

• However enlisted members are also given high levels of responsibility. They can be instructors, military police, weather forecasters and paralegals.

• An officer’s base pay rate is higher than an enlisted member. They also receive more in housing allowances and are eligible to live in a larger home if they live on base.

The Enlisted

Marines Jobs List

• Enlisted personnel can have careers in avionics, aircraft maintenance, combat engineering, transportation, communications, explosive ordinance disposal, field artillery or infantry.

• Before someone can find the right job in the Marine Corps, he or she will need to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, also known as the ASVAB.

• There are nine sections to the ASVAB.

• Word Knowledge

• Paragraph Comprehension

• Electronics Information

• Automotive and Shop Information

Determining U.S. Marines

Careers With The ASVAB• The first four sections of the ASVAB are called the Armed

Forces Qualifying Test.

• If you’re looking to become a Marine, you will need to score at least a 32 on the AFQT with a high school diploma.

• If you have a GED instead of a diploma, you’ll need a 50.

• While the AFQT helps determine if you can be a Marine, the ASVAB determines what career you can go into.

The Officer

Marines Jobs List• Officers can work on the ground, in the air or in the legal

profession.

• Ground officers can have careers as a field artillery officer, public affairs officer, signals intelligence officer or an amphibious assault vehicle officer.

• Aviation officers can be a pilot, supervise a maintenance crews or be an air traffic control officer.

• Officers can also be lawyers, but not medical professionals. The officer Marines jobs list doesn’t include medical personnel.
