Irradiation on Arrival

• Commodity should have market access (refer to FAVIR)

• Mitigation option (irradiation) for pests of concern regulated under 7 CFR

• If the above is not yet in place :

– NPPO of the exporting Country needs to make an official request to APHIS

– Risk Mangers will evaluate if irradiation is an option to mitigate pests of concern on the commodity

• For this presentation, I will requirements for developing a port of entry program for import of fresh produce which will be irradiated in the US.

• Mutual agreement between two countries stating

that each country will legally accept the other’s

system of irradiated products.

• As of 3/24/16, 13 FEWPs are signed with U.S.

trading partners (others on the way).

Pre-harvest conditions (ISPM 14 and
