Ureidet lies next to the Urvold river, where it enters the fjord. Getting there is easy. A 15 minutes boat trip and you are far from any neighbor, at the outlet of a water system protected by the government for its nature. Urvoldvatnet lies close to the cabin and is the best trout fishing lake on the estate.

There used to be a farm here, inhabited as late as in the 1950s. At the Urvold lake, it is possible to see the remains of the main building.

Fishing regulations for Plahtes Estate 2016:

For fishing in the mountain, there are no special restrictions. It is allowed to fish with flies,

angler worm, otter, spinning bait etc.

EIDEVASSDRAGET WATER SYSTEM:

SEA TROUT AND ARCTIC CHAR: Fishing period from 1.6 until 14.9. Yearly quota 10 sea trout/person and

SALMON: Fishing period from 1.6 until 14.09. Yearly quota 3 salmon/perosn. If you catch an escaped bread

salmon, it should be killed.

Safety To be read by all participants

Even though most of our guests are used to spending time in the wild, we require that all participants read the

information below thoroughly (all comments are not relevant for all places).

General information:

Temperatures during summertime range from +25 to +5C. We can have long periods with rain or with sunshine, but the change can be very rapid, especially with western/northern wind. Fog is not common but can appear quite fast.

In June/July it never gets dark. The tree line is at about 300 masl (meters above mean sea level).

The area is so sparsely populated that many places there are no tracks. Fog can make it difficult to navigate. Please inform the other participants where you are going, and/or leave a note in the cabin.

You can walk where you feel like in the nature, not following any track.

The amount of biting insects varies from week to week. In the end of august, most biting insects are normally gone. We have good experience with “Autan” from Bayer as a repellent.

Equipement to bring:

Bring water and wind proof clothing for the conditions described above. Bring proper shoes for walking. Jogging shoes are not recommended for long mountain trips. If you plan to do long hikes, bring a small thermal bag and something to eat.

Bring a map and a compass. You find map references in the product sheet. A mobile phone and a GPS are also recommended. Bring a waterproof container for electronic equipment.

Bring life-jackets if you have not been told otherwise. Also bring some basic first aid equipment.

A water proof bag for electronic equipment is recommended.

For hunting: Bring hunting license from your country. For fishing sea trout/salmon: Pay the governmental fee at any post office in Norway.

All fishing gear and other equipment that has been used in other lakes or rivers during the last week must be disinfected to prevent spreading of the parasite Gyrodactulus Salaris.

Check list for boats and engines:

Oars: Always bring oars. Check that oars and oarlocks are in order. Check boat for external damage.

Engine: Almost all engine trouble is caused by a lack of understanding the points below: o Use 2% oil mixture in the petrol. Lack of oil in the fuel will wreck the engine. o When filling fuel, do not let any water into the tank. Even a few droplets are enough to cause engine

failure. Water in the fuel is the reason for 90% of all engine trouble. Water is best seen as droplets on the spark plug.

o Use external tank. On some of the 5Hp engines there is a tank selector on the side. On the 4 Hp engines, the arrow on the choke should point to the right.

o Check that there is enough petrol on the tank. o Check that (if there is one) the air bleed plug on the tank is open. A closed air bleed plug will typically

make the engine stop after some time. o Use choke on cold engine only, and only for a couple of pulls o When starting, pull horizontally, and do not pull the cord all the way out. o If you have problems, please read “troubleshooting and use of engines”

Boats and bad weather: o If the weather is too rough, do not use the boat. o If the boat is too heavily loaded, it might tip or sink. This is especially important in bad weather.

Always bring a bailer.

Page 9: Ureidet Practical Information - Plahtes EiendommerUreidet Our best lake for sea trout fishing combined with a crystal-clear limestone river. The watercourse is a protected area. Urvold

o In strong wind it is important to distribute the load in the boat. If the boat is heavily overloaded in the back, the bow can be caught by a strong gust of wind and capsize backwards.

o Always wear life jackets in the boat. o Use the “dead man’s grip” on the engine

Checklist upon arrival at the cabin:

Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers: Locate the fire extinguisher(s). Test all smoke detectors by pressing the button. (Unfortunately, the batteries are sometimes borrowed by guests).

Propane: Propane is a highly flammable gas, and it is also toxic. For safety, an additive gives the gas a strong, unpleasant smell. A gas leakage tester is mounted next to the propane bottle.

o We use composite propane bottles that are very light when they are empty. Shake the bottle before exchanging it to check if it completely empty.

o When living the cabin after the stay, please flip over the switch on the propane valve. Please leave the fridge door open to prevent bad smell for our next guests.

Kerosene lamps: The lamp glass transports heat much higher than one might think. Do not place the lamp close to the ceiling or close to combustible materials. Hold your hand between the burning lamp and the ceiling to check if the distance is adequate.

o Do not drive up the wick so high that the lamp starts to soot. o Extinguish the lamp by blowing down the lamp glass, not by retracting the wick.

Stearine candles: Do not trust that our previous guests have attached the candle adequately. o Use only proper candlesticks. Check that the candle is properly fastened. o Do not place the candle close to combustible materials. Blow out the candle when leaving the room.

Wood burning stove: Let the door stay closed. Sparks can spring out and put the cabin on fire.

Walking in the nature:

There are no venomous animals in the area. There are bears and wolfs in the region, but very rear. Lynx is more common, but it is very shy. The most dangerous animals are moose cows protecting her calf. (It is always a bad idea to try to separate mother from child).

You can make a bonfire if it is not to dry. If you are in doubt: don’t.

It is easier to climb up than down, look at the map before descending a steep hill the first time. If it gets to steep, climb back up again. (Some places, the last 10 meters are vertical.)

Bring appropriate equipment for the trip. Consider that the trip might be longer than calculated.

Rivers and streams can change quite fast. Have respect for the force of moving water when crossing.

Be careful when crossing streams and when getting out of boats. The rocks are often very slippery.

Do not go on longer trips than you master. Always tell others where you are going and/or leave a note in the cabin. If possible: Check weather forecast. Ask for help/guiding if you are in doubt.

Always bring map/compass/GPS/mobile phone on longer trips.

Plahtes Eiendommer assume no responsibility for possible damage or injury to the guests or their belongings which

might occur during their stay in the area of Plahtes Eiendommer, or in the cabins, boats, roads etc. All guests are

responsible for their own actions. Guests that do not feel they have the necessary skills should request a guide

during their stay.

We hope you will have a pleasant stay
