CENTRAL PARKHelsinki has its own “Central Park” stretching northwards from the Töölönlahti bay to Haltiala and the Van-taanjoki river on the city limits. Covering an area of a thousand hectares, Keskus-puisto is ten kilometres long and features the rich and diverse nature typical of the southern coastal region of Finland.
Here you can really expe-rience the rhythm, colour, light and fragrance of each season. The park also has fi ve nature reserves: the Pit-käkoski groves, the Haltiala protected forest, the Niskala arboretum, the Ruutinkoski groves and the Vantaanjoki riverbank.

HELSINKI IN ALL FOUR SEASONSSUMMER: JUNE–AUGUSTThe summer weather in Helsinki is often variable, so light breath-able clothing and good outdoor shoes are recommended for out-ings. A light windbreaker is usually enough to keep you warm. On sunny days you should wear a hat and sunglasses, and remember to bring with you sun block and a water bottle.
AUTUMN: SEPTEMBER–NOVEMBERThe weather in Helsinki can still be warm at the beginning of autumn, but towards late autumn it can get very inclement. Dress in layers that you can add or remove according to the conditions. Good outdoor shoes are recommended, as well as waterproof and windproof outdoor clothing.
WINTER: DECEMBER–FEBRUARYIn wintertime the nature in Helsinki is often at its most beautiful. Temperatures are often below freezing, so remember to wear lots of layers and a warm hat and gloves. It’s better to wear too much than too little. Nature trails can be slippery in wintertime, so make sure you wear appropriate winter boots.
SPRING: MARCH–MAYIn springtime the Finnish nature rapidly awakens, and the weather can vary from warm sunny days to freezing cold days. Sunny days are no guarantee of warm weather, so always remember to wear warm clothing when heading out into the nature.
WATCH OUT FOR TICKS!After spending time in the nature, always check for ticks, especially in your hair and behind your ears. If you fi nd a tick attached to your skin, simply remove it using tweezers or a special tick remover that you can purchase from a pharmacy.
Ticks are active when the temperature exceeds +5°C.
