High Technology Use Linked

to Anxiety & Depression

A researcher at the University of Illinois

studied the use of mobile technology

among college-age students. After con-

cluding his research he stated, “People

who self-described as having really addic-

tive-style behaviors toward the Internet

and cellphones scored much higher on

depression and anxiety scales.”

Getting To Know Your Staff Hello to UCHS, SCHS, & SEHS students,

I appreciate seeing each of you every week and helping you in any way I can. I hope you have also enjoyed getting to work with me more closely this semester. You are bright, compassionate, and motivated young people. Keep up the good work!

Since I learn so much working with each of you, I thought you might want to know a little bit about me…

I grew up in Kingsport, TN, and attended Dobyns-Bennett HS. I’ve been with my wife for almost 10 years and we’ve been married for the last two years. We have a Boston Terrier dog named Dexter who brings us so much joy. When I’m not at work, I enjoy walking my dog, hiking, camping, and watching movies with my wife.

I was inspired by counselors who assisted me, both in high school and in college, so I decided I wanted to help other students be successful in college and in their life afterwards. I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling from East Tennessee State University. My experience has al-lowed me to pursue work where I can assist students in learning about themselves as well as educational and career paths which match their goals and vision for their future.

Thank you for putting in all the hard work it takes to be an Upward Bound student. I think it will pay off for you in the future and you’ll be glad you were part of this program. I am here to help you in any way I can.

Sincerely, Marc Tucker Counselor, ETSU Upward Bound Phone: (423) 439-5662 | Email: [email protected]
