Lab Safety
A guide to having successful labs in 5th grade!
Approach with Caution!
When dismissed to the lab tables you should…
1) Bring all necessary materials to your lab table
2) Quietly walk to your station
3) Do not touch anything (unless told to do so)
4) Patiently wait for directions
Directions
Listen closely to directions given by teacher.
Listen, first time, every timeIf you are unsure of any directions, do not
proceed with the experiment. Once you are 100% sure you understand
directions, begin lab work
Glassware
Glassware should always be placed near the center of the table.
Always inspect glassware for cracks/nicks before using.
Report any broken glassware to teacher immediately!
Water
Only use the sinks when instructed to do so.
When using sinks, keep one hand on the hose, one hand on the faucet
Never turn the water to full blastReport any spills to teacher immediatelyAlways wipe up any water that may have
spilled
Materials
Do not touch any materials until the teacher gives you directions
Materials should only be used for their intended purpose
General Safety
Report the following to the teacher immediately• Cuts• Bumps• Water spills• Chemical spills• Broken glassware

Cleanup!
After each lab…• Return all materials to their proper places• Clean up any mess at/around your table• Collect materials and wait to be dismissed to
your seats
Final Thoughts
If you don’t think you should do something…you probably shouldn’t!
