Improving Meeting Coordination Implementing TG‐100 What is the Role of AAPM in International Activities? AAPM – Chapters: Improving collaboration and Communication Developing Synergy with our Corporate Partners Improving Member Services
Education Council Priorities Develop strategies for encouraging the establishment of more
residency programs, especially in imaging physics Address education and certification needs for Medical Nuclear Physicists
Educational needs for developing future scientists in Medical Physics Improve online content for medical physicists’ education and
maintenance of certification Develop / improve resources for the teaching of residents in
radiation oncology and imaging Improve resources for public education on the value of medical
physicists
Professional Council Priorities Develop Medical Physics Practice Guidelines Evaluate the impact of Medicare reimbursement proposals Review the structure of the PC Suggest split along Professional and Clinical priorities
Update the Scope of Practice for Medical Physicists in light of Medical Physicist Assistants
Continue efforts to better define Medical Physicist workforce needs for the future
Continue efforts with the MPLA and Medical Physics 3.0 to improve the leadership of Medical Physicists
Science Council Priorities Improve / continue mentorship programs for young scientists Improve task group review / publication process Develop liaisons with NCI and other funding agencies to improve research funding of medical physicists Develop a Technology Assessment Center at AAPM to attract research and development funds Create a database of research funding of AAPM members and establish metrics to evaluate the success of AAPM efforts

1. Changing payment models for Radiation Oncology2. Increased Qualifications for Physicists from Accreditation
Bodies - The Joint Commission, ACR, IAC, etc.3. Decreased Pool of Qualified Medical Physicists -
Number of Residencies does not currently meet need for Residency Trained Physicists
CURRENT CHALLENGES TO OUR PROFESSION
4. Mismatch between Imaging Physics Residency positions and need for non-academic based Qualified Physicists.
5. Female and other minority representation in Medical Physics today.
6. Leadership Academy Training and Medical Physics 3.07. Need(?) for Medical Physicists Assistants and
delineations of their duties
CURRENT CHALLENGES TO OUR PROFESSION
The Number One challenge for the AAPM at this point is the Governance Structure of the organization which will be presented and discussed in the next presentation.
