FLOOD ALLEVIATION UPDATE: TIRLEY 23/12/2015 Upstream Flood Management: Substantial work has been carried out to help alleviate future flood risk and the bulk of this work has now been completed. A structure to restrict the flow has been put in the ditch. When the flow rises beyond the limit of the restrictor, excess flood flows spill out of the ditch in to the adjacent land which has been bunded to contain the flood water. Once the levels recede, the flood water flows back in to the ditch at the point it spilled out. Further work on upstream attenuation measures are expected to proceed throughout winter and in to spring. This is in the planning stage but it will entail restrictors to slow the flow. The proposal is not for another ‘basin’ such as this one but for a series of in channel barriers and restrictors located down stream of Grove Cottage in an area of natural in-channel storage, in essence enhancing what appears to currently happen. These are not intended to spill the water out, as in the current system, but to retain it in the channel yet at a reduced flow.

FLOOD ALLEVIATION UPDATE: TIRLEY 23/12/2015

Upstream Flood Management:

Substantial work has been carried out to help alleviate future flood risk and the bulk of this work has now been completed.

Going forward, Tewkesbury Borough Council is committed to regularly inspecting the control structure and implementing

any associated cleaning which may be needed.

The following page shows the clay bund and restrictor at various stages of construction, culminating in its current state

ready for reseeding when conditions allow.
