Earl Alto, one of ASLT’s table tennis coaches for seven years, has achieved

national recognition by becoming a US National Team Coach for table tennis. His job is to accompany the US Team to international tournaments and, in fact, he has already returned from his first event in Czechoslovakia! Earl’s achievements include being the #5 junior player in the nation, winning the Under 2400 event at the 2012 US Nationals, and being San Diego’s highest ranked player. Alto is now San Diego’s second US National Team Coach along with Angie Bengtsson, who is also a US National Team Coach for the Paralympic team and a former US Women’s Champion 10 times. Both coaches have duties of evaluating training sessions, analyzing the national team players at international events, and taking part in coordinating national team activities with other national team coaches. MAJOR CONGRATULATIONS EARL! WE LOVE YOU!

If you haven’t signed up your child for the National Noetic Math Competition the registration deadline is Friday, March 1st. Small group tutoring by grade level has already started with Mr. Gary Guan, the manager of the contest. Most students are excited and can’t wait for the upcoming test. This year we even have some first graders participating in the 2nd grade test. Remember the test date is Friday, April 5th and the make-up test will be held the following week.

Math Club is running smoothly as some of the students are participating in the Math Olympiad (MOEM) contest along with the Noetic math contest preparation. This year, 3rd grade and up Math Club students also tried out the IMC (International Math Contest) online math test and the majority of the students found it challenging and intriguing. We are most definitely getting more involved next year!

The Second Annual Chinese Dance gala is coming May 26th and will be held at the new Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla at 7600 Fay Avenue. Five dance companies will come together and perform for your visual pleasure: Bruce Li Dance Company, San Diego Ballet, After School Learning Tree, Ling’s Dance Company and Hong Dance Studio. Tickets may be purchased directly from the Arts Center.
