Falcons seek revenge, crushes Maroons
The Adamson Soaring Falcons overpowered the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting
Maroons, 67-63, closing their season last Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with their first
and only win.
The Falcons did not let history repeat itself: not the winless seasons back in the early 2000s or
the bonfire-celebrated UP victory.
Celedonio Trollano scored the games highest with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Jansen Rios
chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds, and Ryan Monteclaro finished with 7 points, to lead the
Falcons to their happy ending. The victory marked the threes last game for Adamson.
Diego Dario led the Fighting Maroons with 13 points, followed by Kyles Lao with 11 and
Moriah Gingerich with 10.
The gamesfirst points came from Adamson forward Rios. However, the Fighting Maroons
dominated the first quarter with six almost consecutive three-pointers and a 10-0 run, capping it
off 24-12.
The Falcons upped their game during the second quarter with points chipped in by Rios, Trollano
and Monteclaro, doubling their score at halftime and decreasing Maroons lead at 30-25.
In the beginning of the second half, UP struggled as Adamson powered through, tying the teams
at 32-32 with seven minutes left for the third quarter.
JR Gallarza sank a two-pointer to lead Maroons once more at 34-32. Alexis Barrera closed the
difference, and seconds later, Monteclaro shot a two-pointer to put Adamson on the lead.
Maroons began to lose momentum and tried to catch up with charity shots. With 3.2 ticks left,
Dave Moralde tried to recover the lead with a putback and a free throw, but the third quarter
ended with Falcons edge, 50-45.
The start of the final quarter was unkind for UP as Trollano added four more points to
Adamsons score. Past two minutes into the quarter, UP was behind by 10 points.
Maroons tried to recover with points from Reyes and Dario, and by halfway into the fourth
quarter the difference was down to five, 55-60.
Mark Jeruena was fouled out with three minutes remaining but UP fans considered the penalty
questionable and booed the decision.

Dawn Ochea broke the 63-63 tie with an assist from Rios with 57.8 seconds left on the clock.
Maroons Reyes attempted to sink a three-pointer with 20 ticks left for Maroons to lead once
more but failed.
Iigo shot two charities with 1.6 seconds left on the clock, which sent Adamson fans screaming
for the already sure victory.
The game sealed the Fighting Maroons tournament score at 1-13, their only win from defeating
the Falcons during game 25 last Aug. 9.
