A responsible teamThe CIM (Commissioning, Inspection & Maintenance) team at SOCOMEC UPS works in compliance with International Quality Standard ISO 9001 (labour and spare parts). With the continuous aim of respecting the environment, CIM offers services which meet European standards for waste disposal and processing (batteries, chemical condensers, passive and active components, plastics, electronic cards and metals).

ISO 14001This internationally recognised standard details requirements for an Environmental Management System (EMS) for an organisation to implement a policy to enable certification of the standard. ISO 14001 applies to environmental aspects which an organisation identifies as those which it has control over and to which it can influence.The ISO 14001 standard is applicable to:• implementing, maintaining and improving

an environmental management system (EMS),

• assure itself of its conformance with its own stated environmental policy (those policy commitments of course must be made),

• ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations,

• seek certification of its environmental management system by an externally qualified authority,

• make a self-determination of its environmental management system.

THE GREEN GRIDSM membership

The Green Grid is an important not-for-profit association working with IT professionals to dramatically improve energy efficiencies for datacentres. The Green Grid is developing metrics to enable data centres to measure productivity and efficiency levels for all major power-consuming subsystems within the datacentre. These metrics will also provide a benchmark to measure results against comparable IT organisations.SOCOMEC UPS joined the Green Grid association in DATE to offer a contribution to the mission and remain up-to-date with Data Centre requirements.Growing companies need a way to control the costs of the two biggest issues facing IT organisations today: datacentre power and cooling. This is where the need for improvements to datacentre energy efficiencies originates. With more efficient datacentres, IT organisations can better manage increased computing, network, and storage demands, lower energy costs, and reduce the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

Our commitment to GreenSince 2003, SOCOMEC group joined the United Nations “Global compact”, initiative that aims to tackle the social and environmental challenge of globalization.

Sustainable development aims to satisfy the requirements of today’s generation without impacting negatively on the requirements of future generations.

The charter that SOCOMEC promises to respect is based on the following three themes:

• to reduce electrical infrastructure costs by improving output, reducing equipment space, and better management and optimisation of the battery (energy saver),

• to improve exploitation of the electrical infrastructure upstream and downstream by using a “clean” rectifier and equipment adapted specifically to leading loads (e.g. servers),

• to define “best practices” when designing and building the Datacentres, especially concerning airflow.

European Code of Conduct (CoC)SOCOMEC UPS is taking firm steps to protect the climate by helping devise and signing up to the European Code of Conduct (CoC) on the efficiency of uninterruptible power systems.

What real impact does the Kyōto Protocol have on the lives of Europe’s citizens, and European industries ? Codes of conduct represent one of the responses to Kyōto made by the European Union. They are based on voluntary participation by manufacturers of electronic appliances and others by setting requirements for maximum energy consumption.The Code of Conduct on Energy Efficiency and Quality of AC Uninterruptible Power Systems invites set benchmarks for manufacturers to design equipment to in the future:• to meet minimum performance

requirements, focusing particularly on the efficiency of mass-produced three-phase UPS systems marketed from 1st January 2008 onwards,

• to raise awareness among purchasers and users,

• to promote the CoC.
