Thank you to the people who travelled far and wide to watch the parade, see the classrooms, and listen to my bad jokes. I am so thankful for the effort the staff make to ensure children enjoy their school experience! Another amazing experience was Wagga Waggas Supernova last weekend which included numerous students performing and providing technical support. It was amazing to see the talent on show and I was repeatedly impressed and thankful for the way our students supported and promoted their friends and the College. The performances were of exceptional quality and I would strongly encourage you to attend if another similar event is held. Thank you for making this town wonderful! The College Fete and Fireworks is now less than two weeks away (August 24)! I m sure youve seen the brochures and I know Ive heard the excitement from the children about how they are looking forward to it. I really hope you are able to join us, and please consider how you can help the organisers of the different stalls as it seems some classes are running short of assistance. Something else Id love for you to keep praying about is our Year 9 Tasmania trip being held this week, and the preparations for the Trial HSC exams. I know exams are stressful to the whole family, not just the student. If youre concerned about these sorts of things please continue to contact the relevant teachers. One last note is to let you know that a highly supportive member of staff has announced his pending retirement. Frank Harris has kept our College up to date with computing support and sadly he will leave us at the end of this term. I hope you enjoy this weeks newsletter, and thank you for your involvement. Some are anticipating seeing snow for the first time, for some the flying fox adventure park is the highlight, while others have some money put aside to spend at the Salamanca Markets in Hobart. Days will be full and as a community we can follow their trip at the following blog site: http://christiancollegeintasmania.blogspot.com/ (Thanks Mr Moffit for your input). This trip is an opportunity for students to grow in their relationships with each other and with our Creator. Time will be taken each day to delve into the Bible and its truths. There will be many opportunities to serve others over the week, with a special time at the Poatina township where as a group Year 9 will support the community with manual work and general encouragement. We look forward to sharing some highlights with you in the weeks to come.

Last week we thoroughly enjoyed a cold and blustery Friday filled with amazing

memories for the Book Week and Grandparent’s Day events. Thank you to the people

who travelled far and wide to watch the parade, see the classrooms, and listen to my

bad jokes. I am so thankful for the effort the staff make to ensure children enjoy their

school experience! It was touching to hear several classes share the things they love

about reading and about their Grandparents and special friends. There are photos

included in this Chronicle that will give you a sense of the enjoyment and fun.

Another amazing experience was Wagga Wagga’s Supernova last weekend which included numerous

students performing and providing technical support. It was amazing to see the talent on show and I

was repeatedly impressed and thankful for the way our students supported and promoted their friends

and the College. The performances were of exceptional quality and I would strongly encourage you to

attend if another similar event is held. Thank you for making this town wonderful!

The College Fete and Fireworks is now less than two weeks away (August 24)! I’m sure you’ve seen

the brochures and I know I’ve heard the excitement from the children about how they are looking

forward to it. I really hope you are able to join us, and please consider how you can help the organisers

of the different stalls as it seems some classes are running short of assistance.

Something else I’d love for you to keep praying about is our Year 9 Tasmania trip being held this week,

and the preparations for the Trial HSC exams. I know exams are stressful to the whole family, not just

the student. If you’re concerned about these sorts of things please continue to contact the relevant

teachers.

One last note is to let you know that a highly supportive member of staff has announced his pending

retirement. Frank Harris has kept our College up to date with computing support and sadly he will leave

us at the end of this term.

I hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter, and thank you for your involvement.

It is the highlight of the Year 11 Business Studies calendar and it is back again this year. All students in Year 11 Business Studies are starting their own businesses from scratch with start-up capital from Foundation for Young Australians and the National Australia Bank. From bin washing to photo booths, car cleaning to online sticker sales this challenge has been the foundation of many students success over the last 4 years. The College has won National and State awards every year they have entered the challenge, and some students have gone on to make $1000’s every month to help them through Year 12 and beyond. Check out the businesses below that are participating this year and take advantage of their products and services over this month.

Wow! What a big week and lots more to come. Junior School had a great day celebrating Book Week and Grandparents Day on Friday. Despite the wind and cold, spirits remained high and it was wonderful to see all the students and staff parading around as their favourite characters. A special thank you to the mums and dads who helped make these amazing costumes and for attending our Book Week parade. Thank you to Ms Tonkin for organising the Book Fair. It was also a lovely opportunity to welcome our visitors into our school and showcase the great things happening in our classrooms. 3T wowed us with their beautiful reflections of their grandparents and clearly had fun dancing and singing. A big thanks to all those involved.

On Thursday 27th June, Junior School held an event ‘Jump for Jesus’. We were raising money for the Hugo family who are missionaries in Kenya. The Hugo Family were previously a part of our community, their son Maureece attending school at our College.

‘Jump for Jesus’ was held in the MPC and classes paired up with another class or their Buddy Class, and they were given a choice of activities to do.

“We got to choose hula hoops, skipping, parachute games, stilts or basketball. Also at times games would be played at the front of the MPC. The games were so much fun!” (Year 4 student)

“The Buddy Class loved doing fun games with us. At the end of the day we were all so tired. When the teacher said we had to go home, we were all so sad because we had so much fun.” (Year 4 student)

Thank you to all the students and parents for supporting ‘Jump for Jesus’ and the

Hugo family. We raised $1317.20 which will help equip teams with Scripture Union resources and transport requirements.

We are commencing our Peer Support Lessons this week.

Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in Peer Support for 30 minutes each week. Two Peer Leaders facilitate a small group of 8-10 younger students, who work together through a number of structured activities. Each teacher will supervise 2-3 groups in their classroom.

We are working on a module called Living Positively helping us explore the concept of optimism. The module runs for 6 sessions every Wednesday. Our first session enables the children to get to know everyone in the group, agreeing on how they will work well together and interact cooperatively with others. They will also begin to think about what it means to be optimistic.

We encourage you to talk to your children about Peer Support every week, as it will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session.

CHANGE OF DAY. Due to gymnastics this term, Praisebeat classes for Years 1 & 2 will now be on Tuesday lunchtimes. Please ensure students do not have a lunch order on this day to maximise the time available. This week Junior School are participating in Science Week. On Friday, Ms Duggan will be organising experiments and activities for the students to participate in. I encourage you to ask your children about any of the investigations and experiments they may have been involved in. A big thank you to Ms Duggan and Mr Sewell for organising the day. Recently Kindergarten celebrated 100 days of big school! A big thank you to Mrs Poulos and Mrs An for organising lots of fun “100” activities. Some of the student’s reflections about turning 100 included: When I am 100 I will be knitting - Matilda When I am 100 I will be eating soft food - Amos When I am 100 I will have a lot of puppies and live with Felicity – Soonhee Have a wonderful week, Jane Greenlees Head of Junior School

The K-6 staff attended the ‘7 Steps to Successful Writing’ workshop in Albury in June as part of their continual professional development. The teachers found the workshops inspirational and have implemented the program in their classrooms. One of the writing strategies addressed was the use of ‘Sizzling Starts’ in a piece of writing, whether it is a recount, a persuasive piece or something completely creative, a captivating start will draw the reader on to read more - such an important skill in a world now accustomed to sound bites.

Sizzling starts by 2S

“Have you ever been to Caloola Centre? You haven’t?! I went there with my class and with my teacher!”

Juliana, in a recount about 2S’ Caloola Centre excursion.

“Shhh! Listen! Can you hear? People RATTLING and clapping in the MPC, but they aren’t just RATTLING and clapping for no reason, it is for us, 2S!” Skye, in a recount about performing an Assembly item.

“Shhhhhh! Can you hear that? It’s the audience on the other side of the curtain at the MPC! They always cheer for us!”

Daniel, in a recount about performing an Assembly item.

“When I woke up, I saw the crystal blue sky, I could hear the waves crashing peacefully on the rocks, but the BEST

thing of all, I could smell freshly cooked pancakes with fresh oranges and brown sugar, my favourite! I could tell it

was going to be an awesome, spectacular, fantastic day!”

Samuel, a recount of his favourite day inspired by ‘Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day’ by Judith Viorst.

“Mrs Skewes, can you smell that scent too? It smells like homemade pavlova! You made the most

scrumptious pavlova for our party!”

Zara, in a ‘Thank you’ letter.

“To our tour guide, Did you see my face when you were my tour guide at Woolworths? I couldn’t smile for a whole day afterwards, because I had been smiling so much at Woolworths as I was so excited!” Joshua, in a ‘Thank you’ letter following a Woolworths Discovery Tour.

“Imagine walking at the Wagga Beach. Splash! Splash! Splash! You can’t believe your eyes! There’s a long,

safe water slide that goes into a kid’s pool!”

Charlotte, in a persuasive letter.

“Imagine a maze with water guns. Imagine an aquarium with amazing fish! You can have so much fun at

the Wagga Beach with these exciting features!”

Izaiah, in a persuasive letter.

Congratulations to the large number of boys and girls from our College who took out Primary Age Champions at the Zone Athletics Carnival Dubbo on Tuesday 30 July. Our apologies these students were not recognised in last week’s Chronicle (only Senior Students were listed). We will be praying for a wonderful day of competition in Sydney this Friday for all students participating in the CSSA Primary State Athletics Carnival.

Information for Rural Aid: Gift of Music Scholarship Program

The Student Scholarship program is aimed at disadvantaged children

in rural and remote Australia in areas affected by drought or natural

disaster to assist them in their quest to make music. Its purpose is to

provide funding and support to enable children to further their

musical education despite their current financial and/or geographical

limitations. Scholarships are available to eligible Australian children in

regional areas who display an advanced skill or talent in music. The hope is that this program we can play a part in helping a student

to continue in their musical education whereas they previously may

not have been able to.
