Mathew 19: Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, Teacher,

what good thing must I do to get eternal life? Jesus said, If you want to enter life, keep the

commandments. Which ones? the man inquired. Jesus replied, You shall not murder, you shall not commit

adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor

your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself. All these I have kept, the young

man said, What do I still lack? Jesus answered, If you want to be per-

fect, go, sell your posses-sions and give to the

poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then

come, follow me. When the young man heard this, he went

away sad, because he had great wealth.

    Proverbs 19:

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the

Lord, and He will repay him for his deeds.

(The ancient meaning of the word poor is related to destitute,

    afflicted and lacking. )

My book Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God has a simple - but challeng-ing - message: Daily, look for and identify where God is at work

around you and join Him there.

Heres a Great story you will like! Hoping it encourages you to do something a little bit Great for someone you know!

One day, a teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down. It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers. That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual. On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smil-ing. "Really?" she heard whispered. "I never knew that I meant anything to any-one!" and, "I didn't know others liked me so much," were most of the comments. No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. The teacher never found out if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exer-cise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on. Several years later, one of the students was killed in Vietnam and his teacher attended the funeral of that special student. As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. "Were you Mark's math teacher?" he asked. She nodded: "Yes." Then he said: "Mark talked about you a lot." After the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates went together to a luncheon. Mark's mother and father were also there, wanting to speak with his teacher. "We want to show you something," his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket. "They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it." Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of Mark's classmates had said about him. "Thank you so much for doing that," Mark's mother said. "As you can see, Mark treasured it." All of Mark's former classmates started to gather around. Charlie smiled rather sheepishly and said, "I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home." Chuck's wife said, "Chuck asked me to put his in our wedding album." "I have mine too," Marilyn said. "It's in my diary" Then Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. "I carry this with me at all times," Vicki said. Without batting an eyelash, she continued, "I think we all saved our lists." Tears rolled down the eyes of the humble teacher.

St. Bede Coaches/Teachers John Bellino and Bernie Moore Hang up their cleats: St. Bede is saying thank you and congratulations to their long time teachers, friends, and supports Coaches John Bellino and Bernie More. What a Great career they both had! Can you believe, they both started together at St. Bede in 1974 with both going on to impressive and appreciated careers as teachers, coaches, and leaders. Next time you see Coach Belli-no or Coach Moore around make sure to say thanks for all the Great things they have done. By the way, not to be out done, Mrs. Leann Wilcoxen also is part of this retiring class, dedicating the past 30+ years to St. Bede students as both a teacher and owner of many valuable and appreciated extra curricular activities.

The First Tom Templeton must have been Great also Great-Grandfather of todays LaSalle County Sheriff

(Reprinted from the story of his death and funeral in 1926) Thomas Templeton, 49 years old, one of the most wide-ly known and respected coal miners in the northern field, passed away at St. Margaret's hospital, Spring Valley. The deceased was born at Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1877 and came to America in 1908. For 18 months he lived at Granville and in 1910, he moved to Cherry where he has since resided. His pleasing personality, broad spiritedness and fair-ness won him the confidence and respect of everybody who knew him, and he was universally esteemed for his qualities of character and manner. He served for many years as financial secretary of Local 2711 of Cherry United Mine Workers. He was a loyal and consistent worker in union matters and was active in commemorating the annual observance of the Cherry dis-aster. He was a trustee of the Village of Cherry and also a member of the Board of Education and a member of the fire department. In his younger days he was an athlete and participated in many football games in this vicinity. He was affiliated with the Masonic order of Spring Val-ley and the Knight of Pythias of La Salle. That he had endeared himself to the citizens is shown by the profusion of flowers and the long funeral procession which was one of the larg-est ever held in this section. Services were held at the Congregational Church on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. John Stenstrum and interment was made in the Cherry cemetery. The mine, bank, schools and business houses were closed out of respect for Mr. Templeton. The Masonic lodge had charge of the funeral and in the line of march were members of the miner's union, school children, fire company and a delegation of Peter Francisco Post of the American Legion, of which his son Charles is commander.
