Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu was born in 28 May 1919

He is from Penang, Malaysia

He pursued his education as a Queens Scholar inPenang Free School

In 1944 as a Kings Scholar, Dr. Lim graduated

from University of Edinburgh ,UK as a doctor.(Chin, 2011)

He started out as a member of the

Federal Legislature

Won General Election in 1969 withGerakan party

Dr. Lim is the longest serving Chief

Minister elected by the Penangites.

Chief Minister from 1960 to 1990

Dr .Lim is best known for overseeing the emergence of Penangs Free Trade

Zone (FTZ) later renamed Free Industrial Zone which evolved into one of

Asias most powerful electronics hubs.

Penang contributes 25%of export in Malaysia and 70% of the tourism receipts
