Responsible for implementing the work programme on Education
and Training of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
Supports Member States in the formulation and implementation of
education policies, plans and instruments which contribute to
improving the quality, competitiveness and sustainability of the
tourism sector through excellence in education and training.

Objectives
- Assist Member States in assessing their education and training needs in the tourism sector and in developing strategic plans that effectively address those needs.
- Develop and implement practical capacity building initiatives in NTAs core areas of responsibility, promoting the use of new technologies.
- Support UNWTO development assistance programmes through applied learning tools.
- Improve the quality and efficiency of education and training programmes.

Objective
Provide support in the formulation and implementation of plans, programmes or projects for the sustainable development of tourism.
Target Groups • National, regional and local Tourism Administrations, and other
development agencies.
• Young professionals coming from different disciplines to carry out development and tourism projects.
Structure of the Programme 1. Course in Tourism and International Cooperation for Development
2. Missions
a) Short-term Missions (formulation) • 6 months duration (3 weeks of fieldwork) • A team of volunteers guided by UNWTO/Themis experts.
b) Long-term Missions (implementation and/or formulation) • Up to 24 months in a developing country • A single volunteer working with a local counterpart to carry out a
specific assignment • on-line supported
