Introduction:

Candidates wish to apply for EN 473 / ISO 9712 shall meet the prerequisite required for qualification.

Each candidate shall fill relevant examination form & shall get endorsement for his practical experience,

He /She shall undergo visual examination administered by Registered practitioner and shall be done

annually in standard format provided by the examination centre.

Pre-Certification Experience

Industrial NDT experience in the applicable method and field of application, which leads to the

acquisition by an EN 473 / ISO 9712 candidate of the required skill and knowledge, is to be gained and

recorded prior to the award of certification by this program. In the event that a false statement is made

concerning pre-certification experience, any certification awarded as a result will be null and void. Required Experience at Level 3 Level

The candidate shall have had regular practical experience in the application of the NDT method and

this will include a specified period of recorded practical wok on site or in works under certified

supervision.

Note 1: Work experience in months is based on a nominal 40hours per week, If any individual working in excess

of 40h per week may be credited with experience based on the total hours, but shall be required to produce

documentary evidence of this experience.

Note 2: Credit for work experience may be gained simultaneously in two or more of the NDT methods covered by

this document, with the reduction of total required experience in each method as follows:

• two testing methods - reduction of total required time by 25%

• three testing methods - reduction of total required time by 33%

• four or more testing methods - reduction of total time by 50%

* Level III candidates who completed successfully technical school or at least two years of engineering or science

study at an accredited college or university. In the event that is not the case the experience has to be multiplied by 2.

PRE-CERTIFICATION EMPLOYMENT, ON-THE-JOB TRAINING &

EXPERIENCE On-the-job training in the applicable NDT method and field of application can be carried out to

supplement classroom and practical training covered under this EN 473 scheme. Personnel

gaining experience to meet the EN 473 requirement for certification must do so under the

supervision of appropriately certified personnel. Such training and experience must be

documented and authenticated.

Trainings Level I and II

To be eligible for Level III examination, candidates must have successfully completed, prior to

making application for examination, an EN 473/ISO 9712 validated training course, which

covers the relevant EN 473 syllabus (Training requirements shall be for Level III candidates

for 5 years from the publication of EN473 , which is 2013)

Note 1: Direct access to level 2 implies the total hours for Level 1 & Level 2

Note 2: Training hour for UT Lamination testing / Ultrasonic Thickness Testing will be reduced to 50%

Note 3: Training hours for RTFI shall be reduced to 56h

Note 4: Training duration for Level 3 may be reduced by up to 50% when the candidate is a certified level 2 in the

method (RT & UT).

Note 5: Candidates with the basic qualification of Diploma in Engineering / Bachelor of Science (Minimum 2

years of study) / Bachelor of Engineering (Minimum 2 years of study) shall be eligible for 50% reduction in

Training hours

Note 6: Candidates qualified with M Tech NDT shall gain 50% reduction in Training hours for Level 3

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL 3

Practical Examination 1. All candidates for level 3 certification in any NDT method shall have successfully completed

(with a grade of ≥ 70%) the practical examination for level 2 in the relevant sector and method

including drafting of written instructions for level 1.

2. A Candidate who is level 2 in the same NDT method and product sector or has successfully

passed a level 2 practical examination for the NDT method in an industrial sector is exempt

from passing again the level 2 practical examination.

3. Candidates holding valid ASNT Level III/ACCP Level III shall complete the requirements of

Practical Examination for level 2 as mentioned in clause 1 above

4. Candidates holding valid PCN Level II / CSWIP Level II / Level II from European MRA

Certification bodies are exempted for practical examination for that product sector/industrial

sector on the method as applicable in clause 2.

Basic Examination:

Basic examination is divided into three sections

1. Part A: Technical knowledge in material science and process technology; 25 Questions

2. Part B: Knowledge of the certification body’s qualification and certification system based on

this European Standard: 10 Questions

3. Part C: General Knowledge of at least four methods as required for level 2 and chosen by the

candidate from the methods RT,UT,MT,PT, VT which shall include at least one volumetric

method (UT or RT) :15 for each method (60 questions)

4. Basic examination booklet shall consist of at least 95 questions.

5. Candidates holding valid ASNT Level III / ACCP Level III, are exempted from Part A & Part

C for Basic examination, & shall appear for Part B examination.

Main Method Examination: Main method examination is divided into three sections

1. Part D: Level 3 knowledge relating to the test method applied : 30 Questions

2. Part E: Application of NDT method in the sector concerned, including the applicable codes,

standards and specification. Part of the examination covering codes, standards and

specifications are open book examination. : 20 Questions

3. Part F: Drafting of one or more NDT procedures in the relevant sector. The applicable codes,

standards and specifications shall be available to the candidate.

4. For a candidate who has already drafted an NDT procedure in a successfully passed level 3

examination, the certification body may replace the drafting of a procedure with the critical

analysis of an existing NDT procedure covering the relevant method and sector , and containing

errors and / or omissions

5. Candidates holding valid ASNT Level III / ACCP Level III are exempted from Part D on the

method concerned.

For all Parts of examination, the candidate shall obtain a minimum grade of 70%.

REFRESHER TRAINING FOR LEVEL 3

This section explains the availability of refresher training for candidates appearing for Level 3

examination. The below courses are non-mandatory & available for candidates which aids in

preparation for examination.

3. Course Code: M3XT- Level 3 Method Training – 2 days (MT/PT/VT)

5. Course Code: S3XT- Level 3 Familiarization of Sector Specific Standards &

Applications – 1 day (MT/PT/VT)

6. Course Code: S3XT-Level 3 Familiarization of Sector Specific Standards &

Applications -2 day (UT/RT)

7. Course Code: P3XT – Level 3 Practice of Procedure writing- 1 day

8. Course Code: W3XT- Practical Training for Level 3 Candidates

Vision Requirements

Candidates for EN473/ISO9712 scheme examinations will be required, on the day of the examination, to provide

proof of a satisfactory vision test conducted within the 12 months preceding the examination.

The requirements for color perception and acuity of vision, together with the qualifications of those administering

the vision tests, are fully defined in EN473/ISO9712 standard, which includes a form for recording the results of

vision tests. The requirements are reproduced below for ease of information

Near vision acuity shall permit reading a minimum of Jaeger number 1 or Times Roman N4 letters at not less than

30 cm with one or both eyes, either corrected or uncorrected;

Color vision shall be sufficient that the candidate can distinguish and differentiate contrast between the colors used

in the NDT method concerned as specified by the employer.

NOTE: Subsequent to certification, the documented tests of visual acuity should be carried out at least every

twelve months.

In house Rules:

WQAPL examination centers will provide all necessary NDT equipments for use in examination.

All necessary reference standards will be provided by the examination centers. Candidates must not be in

possession of any reference documentation, other than that provided by the examiner, during the examination.

The use of a non-audible pocket calculator is permissible in examinations provided that it is of a type that does not

permanently store programs, formulae or data relevant to NDT.

Translation dictionaries other than electronic type are permitted to use during examinations.

• All sessions will be conducted in fully air-conditioned and well equipped class rooms.

• Practical training will be conducted in well ventilated and well lit rooms.

• Lunch / Tea Breaks will be provided for the training candidates

• Candidates will be supplied with a set of course notes and a set of working reference standards /

documents for their guidance in preparation for the Examination.

• For ultrasonic testing practical training students are encouraged to bring their own Ultrasonic Flaw

Detectors and probes / cables. We will provide the required calibration blocks.

• For Remote examinations additional cost such as Transportation of equipment’s / Exam specimens,

Travel Expenses of Examiner, Accommodation for Examiner may be charged at cost.

Refund Policy:

If the registration for an EN 473/ ISO 9712 Training is cancelled less than 72 hours prior to the scheduled training

date refund will be made after deduction of 50% per course. The Refund will be pay by cheque on the name of the

candidate or his nominee within 1 week.

No Refund for Examination will be provided; the Fees shall be retained by the AQB & adjusted for the future

examination (If cancellation is made prior to 1week of the scheduled examination), The examination fee will

forfeited for any cancellation less than a week.

Code of Ethics Individuals certified according to this EN 473/ISO 9712 Scheme must recognize that personal

integrity and professional competence are the fundamental principles on which their testing

activities are found. Accordingly, it is a condition of this EN 473 /ISO 9712 certification that

certificate holders shall undertake to:

1. comply with this code of ethics;

2. pursue their professional discipline and activities in al spirit of fairness to all concerned -

employer, employees, customers and competitors – consistent with the high ideal of personal

honour and integrity;

3. perform their work in the highest professional manner, protecting the life, safety and health of

their associates and of the general public;

4. undertake only those non-destructive testing assignments for which they are competent by

virtue of their training, qualification and experience;

5. only sign documents for work of which they have personal professional knowledge and/or

direct supervisory control;

6. engage, or advise the engagement of , such specialists as are required to enable assignments to

be properly completed;

7. at all times, be aware of and uphold the provisions/requirements of codes, regulations and

standards under which they are working;

8. avoid conflicts with interest with the employer or client, but when unavoidable, forthwith

disclose the circumstances to the employer or client;

9. treat as confidential their knowledge of any business affairs or technical information of

employers, clients or customers and to make no disclosure of such information without their

express consent;

10. strive to maintain their proficiency by updating their technical knowledge as required to

properly practice NDT in the certified methods and levels;

11. indicate to the employer or client any adverse consequences which may result from an

overruling of their judgment by a non-technical authority;

12. not falsify nor permit misrepresentation of their own or their associate’s academic or

professional qualifications, training, experience or work responsibilities;

13. refrain from making unjustified statements or from performing unethical acts which would

discredit the EN 473 Scheme;

14. inform their employer in the event that their EN 473 certificate is suspended, cancelled or

withdrawn.
