  • Description: I was going for a Spaghetti Western movie poster look. I even out the text in Italian to make it seem more like it.

Objectives: Learn basic photography skills.Choose a color sChoose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.Use lUse layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

PProcess: The design process was looking at a bunch of movie posters to get a feel of how I wanted it to look. I stuck with the more brown tones because the wild west is more dirty and dusty. Obviously I used Photoshop for the tools used. Most Spa-ghetti Western posters have the characters drawn or painted on to it so I tried making it look so. I used the one cut out brush tool to take out the people from other pictures. I would nnext turn the saturation to -80 and the brightness to 50. I would next turn the picture into a watercolor filter. Next I would take the picture and desaturate it, make a copy, invert the image, put it on color dodge, put it on a smart object, and finally put it on gaussian blur and increase the darkness to make it look like someone drew it. Next I would take the background and put it to multiply to blend the pictures inblend the pictures into it. I then used a watercolor brush to make the streaks on the poster. Finally I used the fonts Vanilla Wale and Gringo Nights.
