INSPIRE

The INSPIRE process is a community initiative to build the ESDI

support policy making in issues concerning protection of the environment

 to enable harmonisation across Europe

through interoperable spatial data sets and services

 Guidelines for INSPIRE data specifications

 will provide a common framework

 for data interoperability

 transformation

to enable data in local data models

to be transformed to INSPIRE-compliant models

Without need to re-engineer current processes

 Form foundation to INSPIRE interoperability

to meet data providers legal obligation whilst ensuring continuity of their existing

business

Tried and Tested ™

Schema transformation, quality evaluation and data encoding in GML3.2.1

Reuse existing data and schemas with limited reengineering to achieve INSPIRE conformance

Work with multiple sources across multiple themes

Create a methodology for managing data change whilst continuously ensuring INSPIRE compliance

 Undertake impact assessments now!

Three themes successfully tested during JRC INSPIRE Annex I data specifications testing (Cadastral Parcels, Hydrography & Transport)

Schema transformed, quality assured and output in GML3.2.1 for multiple INSPIRE stakeholders in Belgium, Great Britain and the Netherlands

ESDIN

 ESDIN (ESDI “best practice” Network)

Evaluate the theory of INSPIRE, of integrating National SDI to provide

the ESDI.

19 participants led by EuroGeographics, including 10 NMCAs and 5

research institutes

INSPIRE Transformation Services

a Draft Implementing Rules (IR) for Transformation Services document

outlines the functional requirements of an INSPIRE Transformation Service

Technical Guidance for the implementation aspects of an INSPIRE-

compliant service to meet these requirements

minimise any potential ambiguity or the possibility of different interpretations

on the purpose and meanings of operations and their parameters

 within the Implementing Rules

provide confidence that such services can be realised in a practical way

Approach

State Of The Art analysis for Data Model Transformation Services

Data model transformation in Service Oriented Architecture deployments

standards and technologies for schema description and model mapping

existing data transformation and processing engines

Identify key functional and non-functional requirements

 Present candidate architectures

 proposed implementation, identifying specific components,

implementation of which will meet the requirements

Select and justify the preferred architecture(s), describing the steps required to

implement them

Built prototype based on the Technical Guidance

Using Transport Networks, Hydrography and Cadastral Parcels from Partner Data Providers

Produce a video promoting the availability and applicability of the Technical Guidance
