Khan Academy Week 1 Directions

This week, you will begin working through some Khan Academy videos, along with corresponding Khan Academy problems. These problems were selected to ensure you have a foundational knowledge of math concepts in order to be successful in your math classes. Be sure to read though all the directions carefully. The layout of this page may vary.

Be sure you are working through your mission throughout the week. The program will make you wait 15 hours between the practice and mastery levels. Do not try to cram this assignment into 1 day, as you will not be able to do so. It is highly recommended you work through the material each day. The best way to ensure you complete your mission is to finish all practice problems and mastery challenges each day they are assigned to you.

Select Sign up to get started, then choose Create a new account. Use your University of Phoenix email address for this exercise.

After you have signed in, select Get started. By clicking Get started, you will be asked to take an assessment that will help determine your knowledge on these concepts. This program will then customize materials and rubrics to meet your math learning needs.

Once you have completed all the problems, X out of that screen to see your results.

Throughout this tutorial, you will see your mission progress on the left side of the screen. You will need to take a screen shot of your mission progress and send it to your instructor to confirm you completed your prior knowledge assessment. Be sure to capture your name at the top of the page.

Once you have logged in and completed your knowledge check, you will want to select the option to make your instructor your coach. Selecting your instructor as your coach allows him or her to see your progress in real time. They are then able to see where you are succeeding and where you are struggling before taking different measures to increase your performance with the Khan Academy materials. To add your instructor as your coach, log into your University of Phoenix email account and accept the request.

You should now see your instructor as your coach.

To take a screen shot, follow the directions below, based on the type of computer and operating system you use.

Mac users Windows usersPress and Hold:Simultaneously hold down the Command, Shift, and 4 keys at the same time. Then, let go. You should then see a circle appear instead of your standard arrow.

Click and drag your mouse over the desired area in which you wish to copy or replicate elsewhere.

A copy of what you just selected will then be placed on your desktop as a PDF and be labeled “screen shot.”

Using the Snipping Tool Go to the Start menu Search for the Snipping Tool Click on Snipping Tool

Select New, then click and drag over the area you wish to capture and paste the picture into a Microsoft®

Word document.

Using Print ScreenOn your keyboard, locate the Print Screen/SysRq key. It will be located on the right side above the Insert key

1: After you have competed the first task, make sure you have the Khan Academy window open at full screen.

2: Press the Print Screen/SysRq key.

3: Open a Microsoft® Word document.

4: Right-click anywhere within the Microsoft® Word document and select “paste.”

5. A copy of what you just selected will then be placed copied into your Microsoft® Word document.

Submit this screen shot to your instructor in Classroom to indicate you signed up and took the prior knowledge assessment.

Upon completion of the mission (meaning you received 74% progress), take another screen shot to show your mission is 74% complete. Submit this screen shot to your instructor in New Classroom. Be sure to take the screen shot with your name in view.

You must earn at least 37% of the Mission Progress Points in the weekly Khan Academy before taking the Khan Academy MML Quiz. It is highly recommended you complete and earn 74% Mission Points, even if you do not finish them in Week 1. These skills will be helpful throughout the course.
