PURSUIT OF HOPPINESSFor Tyler, the craft brewing industry was the perfect place to pour his energy. He divided his co-op work terms between Muskoka Brewery and Innocente Brewing Company, where his lateral thinking skills and creative approach to problem solving made him a standout employee. He organized events and tours, handled logistics, and conducted tastings. He also travelled to restaurants and pubs, encouraging them to put craft beer on tap.

FIRST THINGS
FIRSTStep into the real world.
Your Arts First requirement consists
of two small-group classes, where
you’ll tackle a topic related to
current events. Step outside the
classroom to better understand
how research, communication,
and meaningful discussion can
help you become a stronger learner.
You’ll be prepared for your upper
years of university – and beyond.
Each Arts First class explores a different
real-world topic. Students in Arts 130 –
Virtual Theatre look at virtual reality and its
relationship with game design and theatre. CO-OP OR REGULARThe choice is yours.
You get to choose your path of study;
you can go regular or go co-op! Waterloo
students in both paths learn from the same
profs, take the same required courses, and
have opportunities to connect with other
students, clubs, and activities on campus.
GO CO-OP
Alternate study and work terms in a program
that challenges you to explore career options
and discover your strengths. Waterloo’s co-op
program (the largest of its kind) links you to
more than 7,000 employers all over the globe.
Just imagine where you could go! And with
20 months of paid, real-world experience,
it’s a huge bonus for your bank account
and your résumé.
GO REGULAR
Keep to the schedule you’re used to, studying
in the fall and winter, and working or
exploring the world in the summer. Or
take courses in the summer and accelerate,
completing your Honours degree in less than
three years. A regular course of study is the
fastest way to complete your degree and move
on to your next goals. The choice is yours.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGESCustomize your Waterloo experience.Getting involved with one of Waterloo’s University
Colleges could include any number of things –
living in a great residence, volunteering abroad,
becoming a student leader, or even co-registering
as a student (meaning smaller class sizes, a
dedicated academic advisor, and – for the brave-
hearted – walking down to class in your PJs).
They’re all optional – and they’re all great options.

CO-REGISTER WITH
ST. JEROME’S OR RENISON
If you’re looking for a small, tight-knit community, St. Jerome’s University (SJU) and Renison University College are mini-campuses located right at Waterloo that might be a great fit. As an Honours Arts or Honours Arts and Business student, you can co-register with SJU or Renison to make one your home base. That gives you access to more small classes and student advisors that serve a smaller group of students, and you’ll have the option of living in residence at either one as well! All of this, while still earning a University of Waterloo degree and accessing the same resources available to other Arts students on campus.
