University of Washington Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship

• Established in 1996, the University of Washington Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME accredited program which provides comprehensive training and experience in sports medicine.

• Our program is sponsored by the UW Department of Family Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

• We accept candidates with training in family medicine, internal medicine and pediatricsthrough 2 tracks (FM/IM and Pediatric).

• The University of Washington is situated in the beautiful city of Seattle, a veritable mecca for those who enjoy the beautiful outdoors & city life.

Access to Athletes!

• Deliver comprehensive training in outpatient primary care sports medicine, including both medical and musculoskeletal aspects of care

• Provide independent team coverage (collegiate, professional, HS) experiences

• Provide mass event planning and organization experience (Seattle Marathon)

• Secure unique exposure and training in sports cardiology

• Gain scholarship experience to prepare fellows for careers in academic medicine

• Provide local, regional, and national leadership experience

Sports Coverage

Our fellows gain extensive procedural experience in their sports continuity clinics:• Diagnostic U/S• Procedural U/S (guided joint and soft tissue injection)• Percutaneous Tenotomy (Tenex)• Platelet Rich Plasma Injection (PRP)• Peripheral Nerve Hydrodissection• Radiofrequency Ablation of nerves (RFA)• Autologous Blood Injection (ABI)• Cardiopulmonary Exercise Tests (CPET)• Cardiac Exercise Stress TestsOur fellows graduate with competence to practice these procedures in their practices.

Advanced Procedural Training

• Our fellows carry a scholarly project under the mentorship of Dr. Jon Drezner and the Seattle Children’s Concussion Program, lead by Dr. Sara Chrisman

• Topics for scholarship include select sports cardiology topics and sports concussion research

• The clinical experience of the UW Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is designed to allow our fellows to develop expertise in caring for a wide range of medical and musculoskeletal problems in individuals of all ages

• There are longitudinal clinical experiences (primary care, sports medicine, training room) as well as specialty rotations

• Fellows typically get between 30—400 U/S guided procedures, including > 150 diagnostic ultrasounds

• Fellows carry their own panel• Sample schedule

• Current R4 salary: $65,676• Vacation: 3 weeks• CME: 1 week (AMSSM Annual Meeting and Fellows’
