The congregation is requested to stand during the Academic Procession, during the

Invocation, Prayer and Benediction, and during the singing of the Hymns.

Immediately following the service, the congregation is asked to follow

ACADEMIC PROCESSION

HYMN "0 God, Our Help in Ages Past"

O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast And our eternal home :

Under the shadow of thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure; Sufficient is thine arm alone, And our defence is sure.

O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Be thou our guide while life shall last, And our eternal home.

INVOCATION J. Clemens Kolb, A.B., B.D., S.T.D., Chaplain

Lord of the living and the dead, infinite spirit whose love and goodness we adore, to thee we lift voices of sorrow and hope. Our hearts are sad because those whom we loved have gone from us here ; yet, mingled with our grief are gratitude and pride, hope and trust, for we know that their death was not defeat but victory, that life for them has not set in a night of gloom but risen amid the splendours of thine everlasting day. We bless and glorify thy holy name for the grace which thou didst vouchsafe to them who have now passed into thy nearer presence. Help us to know that in thy good time hearts that are sundered here through devotion to our country shall be reunited in the country of our hopes. Amen.

ADDRESS George William McClelland, A.M., Ph.D., LL.D., L.H.D., President

HYMN "America"

My country, 'tis of thee, Let music swell the breeze, Sweet land of liberty, And ring from all the trees,

Of thee I sing; Sweet freedom's song; Land where my fathers died, Let mortal tongues awake, Land of the pilgrims' pride, Let all that breathe partake, From ev'ry mountainside Let rocks their silence break,

Let freedom ring. The sound prolong.

Our fathers' God, to thee, Author of liberty,

To thee we sing ; Long may our land be bright With freedom's holy light ; Protect us by thy might,

Great God, our king.

PRAYER To be said by the congregation

0 Lord, our heavenly Father, in whose hands are life and death, and in whose presence the dead are as the living ;

We thank thee for the good examples of all those thy servants who, having finished their course in faith, do now rest from their labours, especially those whom we commemorate this day.

We thank thee for all the goodness and courage which have passed from their lives into the lives of others, leaving the world richer for their presence.

We thank thee for life's tasks faithfully and honorably discharged, for trials met without sur-render and weakness endured without defeat.

We pray that thou wilt open our eyes to behold the heaven that lies about us, wherein they walk who, being born to the new life, serve thee with the clearer vision and the greater joy. Amen.

CHORAL SELECTION How Lovely Is Thine Own Dwelling Place Brahms

ADDRESS Dr. Kolb

HYMN "Hail! Pennsylvania !"

Hail ! Pennsylvania! noble and strong ; To thee with loyal hearts we raise our song. Swelling to Heaven, loud our praises ring; Hail! Pennsylvania! of thee we sing!

Majesty as a crown rests on thy brow ; Pride, Honor, Glory, Love, before thee bow. Ne'er can thy spirit die, thy walls decay ; Hail! Pennsylvania! for thee we pray!

Hail! Pennsylvania! guide of our youth ; Lead thou thy children on to light and truth ; Thee, when death summons us, others shall praise, Hail! Pennsylvania! through endless days.
