••• DIRECTOR’S LETTERWhat an incredible time to be an Oklahoma Sooner!

At OU, we celebrate excellence every day, and theacademic year that ended in June may have beenone of our all-time bests. Our tradition of success isone that covers all sports and all endeavors of thecoaches and student-athletes of our athleticsdepartment. It is a tradition that has been a part ofthe landscape of intercollegiate athletics fordecades.

Our history of achievement is one that has beenmade possible by many coaches, student-athletes,staff, administrators, fans and friends all workingtogether toward our shared mission – to inspirechampions today and prepare leaders for tomorrow.

Celebrating excellence is something we have donein the past, have done in the present, and, mostimportantly, will continue to do in the future. Thisbooklet is our blueprint for success – what we haveachieved and what we will work toward in the days, weeks, months and years ahead. Through theefforts of and with the input from many individualsand groups from our department, from the OUcampus and from the community in which we live, work and succeed, this plan has been carefullycreated and refined so that we have a guide as wemake plans for the future and decisions on a dailybasis.

A plan, though, is only as good as the commitmentto execute it is. This is one of many areas that setsour department apart. While parts of the plan areflexible, other parts like the Zones of Excellence andTargets are not negotiable. Having such a strong

foundation allows us to follow the plan as we makeall of our decisions and puts us in a position to livethe slogan “There is only one Oklahoma.” Our sharedpledge to the plan unites us as we explore the bestways to use our precious resources of time, talentand funds. Our unwavering commitment to what theplan represents puts our department and those werepresent in a position to experience continuedsuccess.

This booklet is a reflection of the past 12 months ofthe life of this department, a period of time that willstand among the finest in Sooner history. It also isa result of a decision to better use our naturalresources as we combine our Strategic Plan withour Annual Report. Done in this way, we are able totalk about the accomplishments of the past yearwithin the framework of the Strategic Plan. Puttingthis report together has given all of our areas theopportunity to reflect on the past as we prepare forthe future. That’s the way it works when you are aSooner as we continue to excel in all we do.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the missionof the OU Athletics Department. We understand thatin these challenging economic times, each of youmust make choices about your financial invest-ments. I promise each of you that we will alwaystake our responsibility to be good stewards of yourinvestment as a key part of every decision we make. You, our stakeholders, join our student-athletes,sport programs and staff at the core of everythingwe do. We look forward to continuing to celebrateour success with you as we embrace the challengeof measuring up to our Strategic Plan.
