THE UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA

The University of Ljubljana is an institution with a rich tradition. With its nearly 45,000 undergraduate and graduate students participating in over 300 undergraduate and graduate programs, it ranks among the largest universities in Europe. A total of 23 faculties and 3 art academies employ approximately 5,800 full-time university teachers, researchers and administrative staff .

The University of Ljubljana was established in 1919 and has its seat in the capital of Slovenia. Students account for almost 20% of the population of Ljubljana, giving the city a youthful and lively character.

The University is located in the centre of Ljubljana, where the central university building and the majority of its departments are located.

FACULTY OF LAW IN BRIEF

The Faculty of Law in Ljubljana is the oldest and the largest law faculty in Slovenia. It off ers its students an intellectually exciting learning environment with high academic standards. The faculty promotes both legal knowledge and critical thought.

The Faculty of Law is housed in a renovated facility and provides a distinguished and creative academic setting. The study is organized in line with the principles of the Bologna reform. Consequently, we provide Bologna type study programmes (4 + 1 + 3 structure) in all three cycles education at all levels (bachelor, master’s, doctoral).

Library

The Faculty of Law library dates back to 1920. Today, it is a modern university library open to the public. The entire library collection encompasses more than 140,000 items. The library is subscribed to more than 300 international and Slovene periodicals and provides access to a variety of electronic databases. The large and well-lit reading area, where also various lectures and workshops in the fi elds of legal research and writing are organized, provides the necessary space for approximately 200 students.

Due to its extensive collection of books, journals, online information sources and activities, the library is able to carry out successfully its mission of being a house of learning.

COURSES FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Altogether there are about 1,500 students at the Faculty of Law. Every year almost 300 new students begin their law studies at the Faculty. Annually the Faculty receives about 70–80 exchange students, who spend one or two semesters in Ljubljana, through the Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus, and CEEPUS programs and bilateral exchange agreements.

In order to attract a high number of foreign students and further strengthen its international ties, the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana has introduced courses especially designed for exchange students. The faculty off ers 21 such courses that are given either in the winter or summer semester. These courses are conducted in English.
