Beyond the interpersonal development, members also actively participate in community service, philanthropic fundraising, academic programs, intramurals sports and many other aspects of campus life. Ultimately, joining one of our organizations will bolster your connection to Central, as well as to peers, the community and your profession. ACADEMIC SUCCESS Academic success should be a student’s number one focus while in college. All fraternities require a minimum GPA to remain a member. Most chapters have an elected officer who is responsible for keeping track of the academic performance of members. Many fraternities have educational programs, such as tutoring and study sessions, which assist the chapter in excelling academically. Chapters also offer member scholarships. Since obtaining a degree is the main reason for attending college, you must do well in the classroom if you want to participate in a fraternal organization. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Each member has financial responsibilities when it comes to joining a fraternity. Most organizations require a one-time initiation fee as well as semester membership dues. The individual chapters will determine the amount of dues for each semester. If you are interested in becoming a member, we encourage you to formulate a budget to determine whether or not joining is affordable. HAZING Hazing is any action taken that produces physical harm or danger, mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, fright or ridicule. All fraternities have policies strictly prohibiting hazing and have a zero-tolerance stance on this issue. Hazing is a violation of Central’s Code of Student Conduct and Oklahoma has legislation making hazing activities illegal TIME COMMITMENT On average, you should expect to contribute 4-5 hours a week in meetings and mandatory activities. The kind of activities you may participate in will vary depending on which chapter you join.
