DELPHINE HIRASUNA
PHOTOGRAPHY BY TERRY HEFFERNAN
Since 1777, the American fl ag has been raised

Few events captivated the world’s attention as President Obama’s
historic campaign. Not only did it stir passionate political
momentum, but it also inspired an array of work from a world of
artists, illustrators, and graphic designers.
Innovative portraits and graphic designs became a powerful symbol
of the country’s desire for change, and engaging artists from the
grassroots level to the international level became a central strategy to
inspire passion and win the presidential race. Shepard Fairey, who
made the iconic “Hope” image, created the Manifest Hope art shows,
featuring 150 artists who used their talents to carry Obama to victory.
Art for ObamaDesigning Manifest Hope and the Campaign for Change
EDITED BY SHEPARD FAIREY AND JENNIFER GROSS
In Art for Obama 2011, Fairey and Jennifer Gross have collected
collages, paintings, photo composites, and computer-generated pieces,
showcasing the well-known images of the campaign as well as the less
famous, but equally creative, works from around the globe.
• This calendar is an extraordinary keepsake for design and art
