Our discussants will probe questions such as: What is wealth? What role does art play in community making? How can art improve our lives? How can art mediate conditions of poverty? In what way can art contribute to the well being of communities? We promise an engaging discussion and plan to open up a creative dialogue experience, about the exciting role art can play in shaping our local community. Free admission but please call 250-721-8480 to reserve a seat. Mar 14 The Art of Trash Explore the disposable nature of consumer goods in the style of Jas W. Felter. Mar 28 Get Jazzed About Art Visualize jazz music in the style of Gregg Simpson. Apr 11 The Stamp of Creativity Show Canada Post a thing or two by creating wildly original stamps in the style of Anna Banana. Apr 25 Who are we anyway? Media images of males and females get the media collage treatment in the style of Kal Opre. History in Art Assistant Professor and Williams Legacy Chair, Dr. Carolyn Butler Palmer leads an annual seminar on curatorial practice that draws on the Michael C. Williams Collection. This exhibition is the result of her students’ collaboration.

February 24 to March 28, 2010 Revival: The Personal Archive of Robert Aller A snapshot of the recently acquired archive of the late artist and teacher, Robert Aller. While studying under Arthur Lismer in Montreal, Aller’s interest in First Nations art grew, and it became his lifelong challenge to document the lives and art forms of First Nations people.

Maltwood Art Museum & Gallery

March 12 to April 23, 2010 Masterminds: Art by University of Victoria Retirees Take a look at the range of media in which these 27 artists are working, including painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture. Participating artists include Pat Martin Bates, Donald Harvey, Walter Dexter, Bill Zuk and Betsy Tumasonis. The exhibit is presented in conjunction with the Masterminds Lecture series held every Wednesday evening in April. For more information visit www.uvic.ca/masterminds

McPherson Library Gallery The McPherson Library Gallery will be moving to a new location adjacent to Special Collections. The new gallery will house our permanent collection of works on paper (drawings, prints, paintings, photographs), and will act as both a storage and exhibition area.

Maltwood Art Museum & Gallery The University Centre Building is undergoing seismic work from April 2010 to February 2011, which will interrupt our exhibition and programming schedules. Please check our website for updates.
