Know Where You Stand and Start Where You Are – by Rev. Dalia Adams
March/April 2017
Unity of the Valley 350 N. Orchard Avenue • Vacaville, CA 95688 • (707) 447-0521 • www.unityvacaville.net
Give to us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for –
because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything.
― Peter Marshall (Pastor, U.S. Senate Chaplain)
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
― Lao Tzu (Philosopher, Father of Taoism)
Singer and song-writer, David Roth, has recorded a song that begins with the lyrics “I stand for love; I stand
for peace; I stand for joy and for release.” The words and melody have found a home in my heart – some-
times going round and round, gently looping in my mind, and inspiring me to be my best me. As I listen to the
words, I feel my heart open and there is a strength – a power – that moves through me. When I make a
choice and stand in my Truth, I am no longer easily swayed or discouraged by circumstances, news reports,
or discontent that I may see around me. When I stand in my own Truth, I know who I am and how I choose to
show up in my world.
When we choose to stand for something we choose that which is important to us. We choose a principle or an
idea to which we are willing to make a commitment. As we take a stand, we also choose that which will guide
us through the pathways of our lives. Mother Teresa is described as saying that she would not participate in a
demonstration against war, but that she would choose to stand for peace. What is your guiding truth? For
what do you choose to stand? Do you stand for justice? Or for freedom? For joy? For love?
If you choose to stand for Justice, you may be called upon to take action – or to be the voice of justice – in
the face of oppression or inequity. If you stand for Freedom you may be called upon to release the things in
your own life that bind you and keep you from reaching your full potential. You may also be called upon to
help others do the same. If you stand for Love, then it may be yours to be the face of love in the midst of fear
and hatred. You may very well be called upon to make choices based in love in a culture of dissension and
distrust.
Standing in our Truth can quickly begin to feel like an overwhelming task. It is not easy to be the voice of jus-
tice when there is an apparent lack of justice. It is sometimes even more difficult to make choices based in
love when we feel attacked or when it seems we are surrounded by discord and blame. We simply need to
begin where we stand and then move at the pace of guidance – without self-criticism or
judgment. It may be very appropriate and absolutely good enough to begin by loving ourselves when we find
ourselves in the midst of conflict. We need to simply need to know where we stand and to begin where we
are. It is my belief that if we just focus on doing that, we will stand stronger over time.
In all circumstances, may you stand strong in your Truth.
In times of challenge – and always – may you be blessed.
Rev. Dalia

Reiki Gathering 6:30 p.m. on the Second
Thursday of the Month
Facilitated by Doug Taylor,
Reiki Practitioners are invited to attend this gathering
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that
also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is
based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us
and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low,
then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we
are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Pranic Healing® Clinic
6:00 p.m. on the First
Friday of the Month
Facilitated by Lilia Afshary
Pranic Healing® is a simple yet powerful and effective system of no-
touch energy healing. It is based on the fundamental principles that
the body is a self-repairing living entity that possesses the ability to
heal itself and that the healing process is accelerated by increasing
this life force that is readily available from the sun, air and ground
to address physical and emotional imbalances.
Drumming Circle 7:00 p.m. on the Second
Monday of the Month
Facilitated by Sage Trucano
Drumming has been used for healing, ceremony/
prayer and communion with the Divine Creator
and each other for centuries. Join us in celebra-
tion, prayer and healing using sound and the beat of the mother drum
which is the beating of our hearts.
Bring your own rattles and drums or use the many we have to share.
Dance, sing, rattle, drum or just listen to the healing beats.
