individual for doing a particular task in a better way. Training will be viewed as a
short term educational process utilizing a planned, systematic and organized
procedure by which non-managerial personnel acquire the technical knowledge
and skills necessary for increased effectiveness in achieving organizational benefit
Accrued as a result of systematic planning of training and development need of
the organizations work force.
The term of training is education and department but there meaning have

for particular purposes. Normally the personal department of an organization is

In some departments the workers did not reveal the required

The main objective of training is get firsthand knowledge of the
organization. But the trainees are not permitted to take any
problem for this study.
INDUSTRY PROFILE:
The automobile industry in India is one of the larger markets in the world
and had previously been one of the fastest growing globally, but is now seeing flat
or negative growth rates. India's passenger car and commercial vehicle
manufacturing industry is the sixth largest in the world, with an annual production
of more than 3.9 million units in 2011. According to recent reports, India overtook
Brazil and became the sixth largest passenger vehicle producer in the
world (beating such old and new auto makers as Belgium, United Kingdom, Italy,
Canada, Mexico, Russia, Spain, France, Brazil), grew 16 to 18 per cent to sell
around three million units in the course of 2011-12. In 2009, India emerged as
Asia's fourth largest exporter of passenger cars, behind Japan, South Korea, and
Thailand. In 2010, India beat Thailand to become Asia's third largest exporter of
passenger cars.
As of 2010, India is home to 40 million passenger vehicles. More than 3.7
million automotive vehicles were produced in India in 2010 (an increase of
33.9%), making the country the second (after China) fastest growing automobile
market in the world in that year. According to the Society of Indian Automobile
Manufacturers, annual vehicle sales are projected to increase to 4 million by 2015,
no longer 5 million as previously projected.
“The production of passenger vehicles in India was recorded at 3.23 million in
2012-13 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13
per cent during 2012-2021, as per data published by Automotive Component
Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA)”.
The majority of India's car manufacturing industry is based around three
clusters in the south, west and north. The southern cluster consisting of Chennai is
the biggest with 35% of the revenue share. The western hub
near Mumbai and Pune contributes to 33% of the market and the northern cluster
around the National Capital Region contributes 32%. Chennai, with the India

Metal stamping
Metal stamping is used in several applications, whether to produce parts

Sheet metal fabrication is a classification of manufacturing processes that

material deformation. Sheet metal, which acts as the work piece in these
processes, is one of the most common forms of raw material stock. The material
thickness that classifies a work piece as sheet metal is not clearly defined.
However, sheet metal is generally considered to be a piece of stock between 0.006
and 0.25 inches thick. A piece of metal much thinner is considered to be "foil" and
any thicker is referred to as a "plate". The thickness of a piece of sheet metal is
often referred to as its gauge, a number typically ranging from 3 to 38. A higher
gauge indicates a thinner piece of sheet metal, with exact dimensions that depend
on the material. Sheet metal stock is available in a wide variety of materials,

Sheet metal can be cut, bent, and stretched into a nearly any shape.

PRODUCT QUALITY
The quality of the five products of United tech is highly
appreciated by the member’s automobile part manufacturers.
The sales tax of the plastics industry is 12%, during May 2000,
now the Government of Tamil Nadu has reduced sales tax to the level of 8%
reduction in the sales tax percentage will automatically increase the profitability
of the company. Government of Tamil Nadu also extends Interest Free Sales Tax
Loans (IFSTL) to plastics industry. SIDCO made arrangements to get interest
free sales tax loans. Government of Tamil Nadu is giving sales tax holidays to the
plastics industry. If the company has any finished product, dispatches the product
immediately to the customer.
In the production process the products are produced with the help
of skilled workers. Workers are provided overtime wages which includes double
the payment of actual wages. The sales value of the United tech is Rs.80 lakhs to
85 lakhs per annum. The gross profit of the United tech is 35% to 42%. The net
profit of the United tech is 2% to 28%.

PURCHASE DEPARTMENT
The main function of this department is to purchase the raw
materials. A separate manager is there to look after the purchase department
functions known as purchase manager.
He is technically qualified person he has the ability of testing the
quality of raw materials, which are necessary to the United tech.

materials, useless plastic wastages, machines, chemicals, machine spares,
generator spares, electric goods, packing containers, generals’ spares and tools
and equipments necessary to all departments. A person is to look after all
purchasing. He is a technical qualified person.
The main function of his department is to purchase the raw
materials a separate manager is there to look after the purchase department
functions known as purchase manager. He is a technically qualified person. He
has the ability of testing the quality of raw materials. Which are necessary to the
united tech production.

The total amount invested by the Company is Rs. 5 crore out of
which the company allocated 1 crore for fixed capital to buy the fixed assets like
plants and machinery, furniture and fixtures, land & building and the like.
SIDCO offers the facility of giving land and building through loan
facilities. SIDCO has an arrangement to avail the loan for the purchase of land and
building of the United tech is Rs 75 lakhs the value of the generator is Rs 1 lakhs.

Final accounts include the profit & loss A/C and balance sheet.
Final accounts are prepared according to the provisions of the companies ACT
1956. The final accounts are prepared at the end of every calendar year and this
shows all financial information about the company in the particular accounting
year.
Functions of Accounts Department
The following are the main functions of the Accounts Department
with regard to finance.
o Arrangement of finance for working capital.
o Arrangement of finance for long term.
o Getting loan.
o Collection of deposits.
o Creation of changes over fixed assets.
o Payment of loan and bank transaction.
o Preparation of financial statement.
o Correspondence with bank and financial institutions.
Traveling Allowance
This allowance is given only to all department managers. Sales
representatives, electricians, chief mechanical engineer. Sometimes they visit
another concern for business dealing.
The proprietor provides a certain amount of money to meet the
expenses of traveling. In this concern Rs.2 is given for the number of working
days as traveling allowance.
Festival Advance
It is normally paid 30 days before the date of festival. This advance
is recoverable in ten equal installments, once in a calendar year.
This allowance is eligible to any one of the following festivals. It’s

Bonus
Bonus is an extra payment to workers, which stimulates for extra
effort from the workers in addition to their wages, with the aim of establishing a
good relationship, between the worker and proprietor. Bonus is a statutory right of
the workers. The management pays 8.33 of amount for the workers annually.
Eligibility for Getting Bonus
Employee’s salary or wages should not exceed above
Rs2500/- per month.
Employees should have worked in company not less than
300 days in a year.
Non-Financial Welfare Measures
• Hostel facilities
• Hostel facility is also provided to female workers to avoid as
person.
• Safety measures.
The company observed Safety week from 4th March of every year. During
this time they conduct, fire-fighting classes and explain how to use the safety
measures such as fire extinguishers. The workers of generator section are
provided air mob. It reduces the effects of noise.
Disciplinary Actions
If any workers is found to be wrong and misconduct. The
supervisors inform to the Personnel Manager. The personnel manager takes action
against him within 24 hours.
The punishment may be warning or final warning or fine. In case
of repeated wrongs the manager will give a show cause notice to workers it will
show high wrong activity or misconduct.

The Unit is situated adjacent to the National High Way N.H.45. Hence it is
well connected by roads and railways. Madurai city is very near and hence raw
materials and consumers can easily move to the factory site.
HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT
HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT is acting as a key department to a
business unit only male members are permanently employed to works in the
United tech. The reason is that the job is very tough in nature. It may be difficult
to the female workers to perform these jobs. They are allowed to work particularly
in packing section only.
The United tech follows shift system in the production. There are
three shifts in united tech. Day shift starts from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second shift
starts from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. third shift starts from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. the normal
working hours of employees is eight hours per shift.

Facilities for employees
Separate toilet facilities are available for male and female workers.
Sweepers have the responsibility to keep the latrines and urinals clean, sanitary
pans, latrines and urinals are washed throughout once in seven days with suitable
disinfections. Measures are provided to avoid accumulations of dust and fumes.
dust or fumes or impurities which may cause injury to the health of the workers.
Hence they must be prevented by using exhaust measure.
Humidification and ventilation and cool air are necessary in respect
of factories where there is artificial humidification. Water used for artificial
humidification must be clean. Water may or must be taken from public sources or
other sources of drinking water. Ventilation & temperature must be effective and
suitable provisions shall be made in every factory for securing. Sufficient
ventilation by the circulation of fresh air. Such a temperature reasonable for
working and prevents from being injured.
The marketing of leave is compulsory as per the shops and
establishments ACT of 1947 section 16(1) such particular are available in the
attendance register kept by the company. The workers are permitted to go on
leave with wages. There is no pay cut for the leave days. The attendance register
is maintained by Human resource department.
The workers also avail government holidays and local holidays in addition
to the casual leave. May, June, July is season time to the United tech. During this
period the workers are requested to work more than the normal working times.
The company fixes the wages and salary on the basis of experience
of the concerned worker. The company on the basis of the earnings of the worker
for the particular period also gives the bonus. United tech provides training
facilities to the workers not only to improve their efficiency but also to increase
the organizational efficiency. The workers performance is increased. The
production function is going on continuously without interruption the additional
cost of repairs and maintenance of the company comes down.
When an expense of the company is decreased the profit of the
company is increased to some extent. The United tech does not fix any hard and
fast rules with regard to leave of the workers. The workers are permitted to avail
the leave by giving prior notice orally.
In such a cases the letter “H” is marked against name of the
workers, on the date in which the concerned worker is on leave. The skilled
workers get a salary of Rs.5000/- per month.
Latrines and urinals
Separate latrines and urinals are provided for male and female
workers separately. It is conveniently situated and proper lighting is also
provided. It must be maintained in clean and sweepers shall be employed for
keeping latrines and washing places, clean latrines and urinals accommodations
must be of prescribed sanitary type floors and walls to be closed.
Latrines and urinals are washed thoroughly once in seven days
with suitable disinfectants.
SALES DEPARTMENT
The main function of the Sales Department is to sell the products
what the Production Department produces. United tech sells its products directly
to the retailers in other cities. This company is also having the practice of selling
its products through dealers in certain areas. At present, the company has twenty
dealers all over Tamil Nadu. This company has its own market within Tamil
Nadu. This company has appointed more number of dealers in Madurai district,
Thirunelveli and Tenkasi areas.
The company has its own sales policy and followed it property, the
company does not have any partiality to the dealers. There is no extra discount
available to the dealers.United tech sells its products on credit basis to the dealers
and on cash basis to retailers. The company has appointed sales representatives to
canvas the orders from the dealers. Whenever the sales representative canvasses
the order, the sales representatives are permitted to collect the amount from the
dealers.The company gets order through telephone also a separate executive is
appointed in this company and designated as sales manager who looks after the
activities of Sales Department. If the dealers give orders through telephone both
sales representatives and sales managers are not eligible to get any commission
from the company.c
United tech keeps finished products. The products are produced
after receiving the orders from dealers and retailers of companies.The production
manager produces the required products with the help of skilled workers only.
During the overtime the workers are paid double the wages of actual wages.
Sales volume of the United tech is 10 to 22 tons per month. The
annual turnover is around 100 tons. This is sales volume made to the dealers. The
sale made in panchayat unions are fulfilled by the United tech sells its products
directly.
Sales Promotional Activities
Sales promotion is another way of increasing the sales. It
includes all activities which are used for increasing sales. It is a special type of
activity carried on to attract consumers for buying. The sales promotion activities
consist of display, shows, exposition, demonstration and other special efforts such
as.., Bonus, Season tickets, season-discount, free samples etc.., all these are used
to attract consumers and create more sales.
The United tech sells the goods in Tamil Nadu, outside Tamil
Nadu and foreign country. The sales department gives importance to two persons.
They are as follows:
• Wholesalers
• Retailers.
This department sells product on the basis of cash and credit. The spot
payment system is mostly expected by sales manager. But under some extra-
ordinary circumstance the credit sales are allowed, that also with the prior
permission of manager and proprietor.
Banker
The Banker of United tech is state bank of India (SBI) in city of
Madurai.
Training and Development
After the completion of the selection, concerned authorities arrange
for training to the selected candidates. Training is given up to the performance
appraisal and needs specified by concerned department.
Leave Procedure
The concern follows the leave procedures according to rules of
companies ACT 1956. Usually the following leaves are availed by the workers at
the concern.
CASUAL LEAVE 12 DAYS PER ANNUM
FESTIVAL LEAVE 9 DAYS PER ANNUM
MEDICAL LEAVE NIL
WEEKLY LEAVE ONE DAY

The United tech follows a policy in recruitment. It is selection of
right person for the right job at the right time. The recruitment is done only after
approval of managing director.
In this company there are two types of workers.
• Permanent workers.
• Temporary workers.

This company advertises vacancies, tenders, in leading Newspapers
like DINAMALAR, DAILY THANTHI, etc..,
Brand
Brand is a symbol design or a style of letters used by the company
in order to differentiate them from other competitors. The selected brand should
not resemble with any other existing brands.
So, it’s the responsibility of the company to select a brand with
great care. This company has its own brand. (i.e.) “THAI”.
Infra Structure
The infra structure facilities available in the company are
appreciated by the employees. The smooth performance of the work is based on
the facilities available to the workers of the company are presented below.
Power
United tech is using electric power to manufacture its products.
The production will be stopped in case of power failure or power cut.
SIDCO established a separate transformer in the industrial estate.
The industrial units which are located within industrial estate are getting regular
power supply. The continuous power supply helps the company to have steady
growth in business.
Drinking Water
Drinking water is necessary to every human being. Naturally
drinking water facilities at the work place ensures workers additional performance
at workplace.
So it’s the duty of the company to give drinking water facility to
the workers. United tech provides sufficient drinking water facilities to the
workers.
Land and Building
Land and building is provided by the SIDCO. It is responsible for
the development of small scale industrial units.
Recently the government of India has collected a statistical data
regarding the small scale industrial units and its going to implement a program to
develop small scale industrial unit. So it’s obvious that the United tech have a
bright future which would be offered by the SIDCO.
Basic Facilities
United tech provides separate toilet facilities for male and female
workers which are situated in the convenient places. Sweepers are employed for
keeping latrines and urinals clean and in sanitary condition. The sanitary pans of
latrines and urinals have been washed once in seven days with suitable
disinfectants.
Lighting
Lighting is very important in the production place. If not so
efficiency of the workers may reduce. But the United tech has adequate lighting
facility in the production place. Lightings can be divided in to two they are:
• Natural Lighting
• Artificial Lighting
Adequate numbers of windows are affixed in the walls to get natural
lights. Tube lights are also fixed in the place of production as a form of artificial
light to the workers. United tech is very much interested in providing basic
facilities to the workers.
First Aid Box
Workers are working on dangerous machines. And at the same
there is a possibility of accident in the work place. In order to give assistance at
that time the Fist Aid Box is maintained by the United tech as per the laws of
Government.
Subsidy
Subsidy is a kind of motivation given by the government to the
industrial sector. Number of subsidies is provided both by the central government
and state government to the industries. The United tech is also getting subsidy
from the government. The subsidies are listed below:
Power Subsidy
Power is important for the manufacture of products. The power
subsidy is essential one for the small scale industries.
In order to get power subsidy, the concerned company should
forward an application to the government of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board
through SIDCO and DIC within six months from the date of starting business unit.
The plastic industry is eligible to get 10% power subsidy for the first three years
from the date of starting the business unit.
United tech has completed its formalities to get power subsidy
from the government.
Generator Subsidy
The machines are operated with the help of power. If there is any
interruption in the production process, the quality of the output and quantity of
output will be affected. So, there is a need of continuous power which can be
provided by the generator.
The value of generator is Rs. 1,00,000. There is a subsidy available
to the plastic industries to buy generators. The United tech has also availed for
generator subsidy from the government of Tamil Nadu through the District
Industries Center (DIC).
Interest Free Sales Tax Loan (IFSTL)
Each manufacturing company is liable to pay Sales Tax. Plastics
Company also comes under the category of manufacturing. So the plastics
company should pay sales tax. The percentage of sales tax all over India
uniformly.
This type of actions of government gives more benefits to the
plastics industry. Government of Tamil Nadu gives facility to the plastics industry
to pay sales tax. The rate of interest of loan is zero. United tech also avails the
Interest Free Sales Tax Loans (IFSTL) through District Industries Center (DIC).
FINDINGS:
The trainee has identified the following problems. Which are faced
by the United tech:
United tech is maintaining books of accounts with certain unqualified
person. There is no qualified person to maintain books of accounts.
Employee is not given proper training
The fire accident safety measures are not provided
The company suffers from shortage of electricity.
SUGGESTIONS:
Only a qualified person with CA qualification can maintain the books of
accounts without errors.
Employees have to be trained to produce the good quality.
The fire accident safety measure has to be provided in the factory in
dangerous area and also to provide emergency exit.
Solar system could be introduced for the entire electrical appliance which
will reduce the consumption of electricity.
CONCLUSION
The trainee came to know about the several concepts of
business administration, functions of a manager in various situations and
relationship between the employer and employees.
The training period was very useful and beneficial to the
trainee. The trainee has got great experience and acquired knowledge in this
inplant training.
During the training period, Accounts Department helped
the trainee to gain more knowledge.
Through the training the trainee got an overall idea about
what are the functions of company management in administration activities under
various laws. Such as Company Law, Mercantile Law, Etc..,
