Letter From The Editor

Grace and Peace be unto you UNITED,

Frank McKibben is quoted as saying, This is Christmas: not the tinsel, not the giving and receiving, not even the carols, but the humble heart that receives anew the wondrous gift, the Christ. Christmas will be here in less than a week. It is such a joy to have this yearly tradition to take a moment to remember the greatest gift that was sent to the earth for each one of us. Christ, our Savior, Redeemer, Lord, and Friend.

We would like to take the time to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Powerful 2015! May your home be filled with the joy of Christmas, and may you love deeper, laugh harder, and see God in everything you do in 2015. Better is already here!

Early Bird registration is still underway for National Holy Convocation! Prepare yourself for the most anticipated and glorious moment of 2015, The Encounter – July 14-18 in Atlanta, GA. #UCCCencounter15

Be blessed and enjoy as Pastor Adrian Wynn leads us into greater understanding of gaining victory in Who is the Enemy, Pt. II. Be encouraged UNITED, and above all, continue to stand.

In the last article we discussed and determined the fact that Satan does not have the power to defeat us. We did however conclude that he uses the tactics of influence and distraction to assist us in defeating ourselves. Once we arrive at a level of spiritual maturity we get the revelation that God does not want us fighting the devil, He already has that fight won. God however has designed and gifted us to win souls. And while in the process of winning souls the primary battle that we must fight is thebattle of our own predilections, proclivities, and preferences. This battle is of the utmost importance because we cannot afford to fall into or even worse become the hole that we are trying to save others from.

Therefore we must fight our flesh! Romans 7:18 helps us to understand that nothing good resides in our flesh. It is filled with a desire to satisfy its thirst regardless to the directives and instructions of God. The flesh always makes itself priority and it gives very little regard to the collateral damage that it causes. This is why we must fight to keep our flesh under control. We cannot allow it to impose its will in our lives. The stakes are much too high. The flesh must be kept under control, however it is a vital part of my assignment. Because my flesh is with me every moment of every day I am well acquainted with it. My acquaintance with my flesh should give me a compassion for the souls that I have been assigned to that are still struggling with flesh issues of their own. This compassion gives me the capacity to love others out of sin opposed to leaving them helpless in their struggle. This process however can only be accomplished when I consistently contain my flesh.

We become able to fight and overcome our flesh when we employ our faith. In the times and culture that we now live in faith is typically discussed in an effort to acquire. Faith is not only a tool that is used to believe for what you have not yet received, but also faith is the substance that fills the gaps in our lives while we wait on what we are to receive. As Christians we do not always succumb to our flesh because we desire disobedience. I believe that more often than not we fall because we are missing the element of faith that fills the gaps in our lives while we are waiting on God to satisfy our longing souls. Faith, then is not only necessary when attempting to gain control of our flesh, it is the primary weapon. If I can believe by faith that God can and that God is meeting all of my needs then my flesh cannot convince me to take matters into my own hands trying to fulfill my desires.

WHO IS THE ENEMY, Part IIBy Pastor Adrian WynnThe City of Faith Church

Humble, Texaswww.thecityoffaithchurch.org

Page 5: United Times ~ Mid-December 2014

In conclusion, if the inner-me is the greatest enemy I must understand 3 very important factors in order to overcome. I must acknowledge that my flesh is with me always, and it always wants to dominate and take control of my life. I cannot be released from my flesh I must simply learn how to control it. I must also understand that my flesh can only eat what I feed it. If I give my flesh a steady diet of what it wants it continues to grow. The more my flesh grows the more demanding it willbecome. Starving your flesh by feeding your spirit is the wise way to keep the flesh weak and tamable. Lastly, it is imperative to realize that I am not just fighting my flesh for this moment. I am employing my faith to fight my flesh in an effort to retain the future that God has promised me. My spirit wants to continue on the path that God has carved out for my life and any detour that my flesh may offer is not God’s best for me. I know who the enemy is, and I will not allow the inner-me to rob me of God’ s best for my life.

Increase Me is not just another self help book written by someone twenty years removed from struggle. This book takes a realistic and transparent look at life and how we live it.

Increase me is just as much strategic as it is motivational. Each chapter builds on itself in an effort to build your arsenal and

equip you for any challenges that may lay ahead. Most people in life have a pretty good idea of where they would like to see

themselves. They are aptly able to tell you what type of home the desire, what brand of car they would like to drive, how they would

like their marriage to play out, or even what they want their careers to look like at its end. A small percentage of people

actually have a plan and tools as to how they plan on arriving at all of these amazing places.

Increase Me will equip you with an easy to remember, easy to implement plan of action as well as provide you with a treasure chest of tools and wisdom to use along the way. Life is a journey and the Word of God is your roadmap. Increase Me will help you

to avoid traffic along the way! Enjoy the ride!

On Sunday December 14, 2014, United Covenant Churches of Christ stood in solidarity with churches across the nation in spiritual protest against police brutality, racial inequality, and injustices in America. As the movement continues, let us connect across the country to work to end the various forms of injustices impacting our Black and Latino men. It is time for the celebration and humanization of Black lives.

The ministry strives to not just be another local choir, but a choir that is actively involved in the community. Divine Revelation has participated in a number of community events including: the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Annual Victim Memorial Service, Stop the Violence rallies, Child abuse prevention efforts, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebrations, the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s Annual Hunger Walk, and more.

In May of 2014, Angela Walker and Divine Revelation were named champions of the Urban Broadcast Media’s Voices of Praise Battle Competition; and were able to record their first album. On November 21, 2014 The Voices presented their first CD Release entitled ‘Door to the Next Level.” This refreshing project brings a mix of original music as well as a new flare to some old time gospel favorites.

Pastor Angela Walker and Divine Revelation can be heard each Sunday at God’s House of Divine Revelation Church lifting up the name of Jesus!

Through the vision of Pastor Angela Walker, Divine Revelation was formed in February of 2006. With 7 singers, Divine Revelation was known for their small size, but powerful and anointed sound. Having grown in number, Divine Revelation still remains an energetic, youthful and spirit-filled group.

What are some of your favorite things to do during the holidays?

Camp Out with the Family

Go through closets and donate gently used clothing (coats are particularly useful this time of year) to a local shelter.

Watch a movie that remembers the life of Christ. There are several good films that focus on the birth, death, and life of Christ. We recommend Jesus of Nazareth, the film, Jesus, or for mature audiences, The Passion of the Christ. Or for a change of pace, try Ben Hur, a movie that begins with Jesus' birth and ends with His death, and tells the story of a man who was transformed by His love and forgiveness.

By watching movies that focus on other aspects of the life of Jesus, the Christmas celebration of His birth is put into proper perspective. This can be an excellent opportunity to talk to your children about why Christ had to come in the form of a child.

Going Caroling

Get a handful of friends together and go caroling. You’ll be surprised by how well-received your singing group is, even if you’re out of tune!

Holiday MusicCreate a holiday playlist that your

family listens to in the car or at home. Don’t forget classics like

‘White Christmas,’ ‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas,’ and ‘The 12 Days of

Christmas.

Camp out in front of your Christmas tree one night. Keep the tree lights on, read holiday stories, and snack on holiday treats. This is sure to be a fun and memorable night!

Watch Movies about the life of Christ
