Coaching Log – Athlete ObservationDate 14/12/14

Location AOAC

Strengths I believe I was able to complete the observation of an athlete well, as I could easily identify Nez’s strengths and weaknesses in her climbing ability. I also have knowledge of how she progresses and works at achieving her goals, as I have climbed with Nez before and understand that she finds it hard to overcome her fear of falling.

Improvement Areas

To improve my observations of Nez’s performance I should video each of her climbs, which consists of her doing a range of different grades so it is easier to analyze. I should also look at range of ability within different circumstances to see how well she is able to translate her performance to other facilities. Such as in indoor climbing at a range of facilities TR and leading as well as how her performance outdoor climbing on rock.

Points for future discussion

From observing the athlete, I will make sure that when I come back to talking to the athlete I will make sure that I use video analysis more and have an understanding of Nez’s current fitness levels at the time of assessing or training.

Possible actions arising

I will attend Nez’s next training session and look at specific areas of performance (in terms of traits). To help Nez with her performance I will video to use as evidence to show her of her strengths and weaknesses.

Coaching Log – Athlete Profiling MeetingDate 14/12/14

Location AOAC

Discussion points

Initially in the meeting with my client Nez, I began by discussing the reasons and benefits to why performance profiling is beneficial. Once my client grasped this concept I then moved onto explaining the 20 traits and using the API and ASA sheet and understanding the scale.

Concerns My concern before meeting the client was how Nez was able to rate each trait of her performance, with in climbing and how she understood the scale. I spent along time going through, this included the scale and understanding the ASA and API sheet. Doing this ensured that I obtained the correct results.

Points for future discussion

Through doing this meeting with the athlete, I believe that Nez has a better grasp on her strengths and weaknesses of her performance. She is aware that she needs to work on areas of her performance and how this will be done through designing a specific training plan. I am confident that she will committed to improving her performance and is determined to do so.

Possible actions arising

When we next meet to asses Nez’s improved abilities, I will ensure that I use the same scale to compare to along side this compare video analysis of her performance to identify key aspects that she has improved. I will have a better grasp of how to explain the scale on ASA and API sheet. Have a clear training plan through completing the profile of the athlete.

Coaching Log – Coach Profile Meeting

Date 14/12/14

Discussion points

Going over 20 traits and scoring each out of 10 for athlete, based on the key. Looking at strengths and weaknesses of athlete and how these can be improved or worked on.

Concerns The Scoring was not completely clear ,but overall I asked all the correct questions and was able to ask about all aspects of performance. To eliminate this problem I will take more time in explaining ASA and what API means and give a clear example.

Points for future discussion

Has Nez been able to work on her core strength by her next meeting . Has she been able to achieve her CWLA. Grade of climbing through confidence of fear of falling. Comparative video of now and how she has improved

Possible actions arising

understanding the scoring system in terms of ASA and API and grading each trait out of 10.
