Message from the President
The current executive committee of the Thai Rubber Association has been in the operation since March 2016. The operation of the executive committee is based upon the following principles: 1) to operate on the principle of transparency and good governance; 2) to corporate with government
agencies and private sector both at local and international level; 3) to cherish close relationship with other rubber producing countries, particularly in Asia; 4) to act as a central body between rubber producers and users and solve problems arising in rubber business for mutual benefit of both; 5) to build corporation and relationship among association members for sustainable development of the rubber industry; 6) to ensure that the members are promptly informed of all the news and information; 7) to build a good image for the association to be locally and internationally recognized as well as to promote a good image of Thai natural rubber as a whole in the world market. The executive committee is pleased and highly honoured that all members trust our team in leading such an internationally important private rubber organization. We have continuously improved the operation and developed human resources to serve as representatives of the association and to give good services to the members in an efficient and prompt manner for highest satisfaction of every member. The executive committee is highly dedicated to the operation of the association, with the support from all the members, giving success to all activities of the association.

Throughout the two-year term of the operation, the executive committee and staffs represented the association in several meetings, seminars and conferences to voice opinions, solutions and measures to the government agencies and private sector. Some of the major conferences were those organized by Committee on Natural Rubber Policy; Thai Arbitration Committee on Natural Rubber; Sub-Committee on Rubber Strategizing; and Subcommittee on Standard Establishment of Odor Intensity Control in Rubber Factories. In cooperation with private sector, TRA is a member of Thai Chamber of Commerce's Committee on Key Plants of Economic Importance and Committee on Rubber and Rubber Wood Cluster; the Federation of Thai Industries’ Trade Environment Committee; and Thai National Shipper’s Council. In terms of product standard, TRA acts as a member of Committee on Consideration of Agricultural Product Standard for Natural Rubber and Rubber Products under National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards, Committee on Natural Rubber and Rubber products under Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI). On research front, we also serve as a member of Committee on Southern Region Research Network under National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Expert Group of National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand Research Fund and related educational institutions. Another activity is to participate in seminars as a speaker under the main topic of Thailand rubber industry in local and international stages to make suggestions and policies, and report up-to-date rubber news and information to the members. In this regard, Executive Committee members of the Thai Rubber Association were nominated executive committee members of the International Rubber Consortium Limited

(IRCo) and the International Tripartite Rubber Council (ITRC). Additionally, we are a member of ASEAN Rubber Business Council (ARBC). TRA was selected by Management Committee of International Rubber Association (IRA) to assume the posts of Chairman and Executive Secretary for the term 2017 - 2018. In this regard, TRA is highly honoured to have Mr. Paul Sumade Lee, Chairman of Sri Trang International Pte LTD. chair the IRA and Mr. Supadetch Ongsakul, TRA Deputy Secretary General serve as the Executive Secretary of IRA. The above said activities are the important part of the country’s natural rubber development on the right path. On behalf of the executive committee of the Thai Rubber Association, I wish to thank all members and sectors concerned for the support and cooperation in the development of the association to achieve continued success.

The Thai Rubber Association สมาคมยางพาราไทย 泰國橡膠總會
Established in 1951, the Thai Rubber Association (TRA) currently comprises of 60 processing and exporting member companies. Collectively, these enterprises produce and export about 85% of total Thai Natural Rubber production in various forms, viz. Ribbed Smoked Sheet, Technically Specified Rubber, Concentrated Latex Compound Rubber, etc. The Association is recognized by the Government and is respected by public sector as a central organization in which the government and the private sector can contact and elaborate.
Background
On March 5, 1951, the Thai Rubber Association was established by those early traders under the name of "The Rubber Traders Association of Thailand". Its objectives were to serve as the central organization of companies comprising rubber producers and traders to foster co-operation between them as well as acting as the central entity for government agencies to contact the group and discuss or negotiate about matters of common interest.

From that humble beginning, the Association has also been the driving force in pushing innovative activities concerning career development along with up-grading its members' standards of business administration.
The main purpose of the establishment of the Association at the beginning was to solve problems due to the non-regulated trade that lacked any rules and regulation. Buyers and sellers were free to trade and thus could satisfy their own needs and wishes without considering the impact on the trading as a whole. Understandably, there were problems of poor quality goods as well as difficulties of contractors who did not follow or abide with contracts. This occasionally resulted in lengthy disputes and harmed the trade and its traders.
Consequently, a gathering of rubber traders calling themselves "The Rubber Traders Association of Thailand" was formed with the prime objectives to eliminate unfair trading and to support its' honest trading members in accordance with formulated rules and regulation.
The office was appropriately located at the Bangkok Chamber of Commerce. The first meeting of the association was conducted on March 5, 1951. In its formative years, there were already 15 members including both ordinary members and special members.

It took the Association almost two decades to become a regular member of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. On the 29th of February 1968 the permit to become a trade association was given by the registrar of the Government Authority. The office was relocated at 57 Soi Rong Muang 5, Rong Muang Road, Pathumwan District, Bangkok under the name "The Thai Rubber Traders' Association".
DEVELOPMENT
The rubber production of Thailand increased not only by strong demand from the world market, but was also stimulated strongly through the replanting program of the Thai Government from 1961 onwards. This resulted indirectly in the establishment of rubber processing factories and rubber trading companies. As these professional groups needed to be in close contact with the farmers and plantation owners, their activities spread throughout the rubber growing area in the South.
The number of members of the Thai Rubber Traders' Association has, therefore, increased and presently comprises 57 leading companies. Some of these companies are rubber processors while others are traders.

MOVING TO THE SOUTH
With the main town of Hatyai in Southern Thailand becoming a full-blown commercial centre, and with the establishment of the Deep-Sea Port in Songkhla, there was good reason to have the Association moved to the south. Not only is that the main rubber growing area with many rubber factories and intensive transport and trading activities, it is also close to our neighbor country Malaysia, the then world’s third biggest producer and exporter. In 1992 the Association moved to the town of Hatyai, Songkhla Province and founded its office at 4/14 Thepsongkraw Rd.
In 1993 its members agreed to change the Association's name to the "Thai Rubber Association". In the following year the office was moved to a more appropriate property: 45,47 Chotivithayakul 3 Road, Hatyai, its current seat.

Objectives (1) To promote the trading of natural rubber;
(2) To encourage and help members to solve problems and overcome obstacles, this includes to enter into negotiation with persons outside the Association, for mutual benefit in the trading of natural rubber; and to conduct intelligence study on the natural rubber markets, both domestic and foreign, for the benefit of the natural rubber trade;
(3) To conduct research on the natural rubber trading and to exchange and disseminate technical information and knowledge on the natural rubber trade;
(4) To collect statistical or documental or other information concerning rubber trade from all members but with the consent of members concerned;
(5) To promote the standardization of rubber qualities; to research and improve on the processes of smoking, grading, powdering, packing as well as marketing;
(6) To co-operate with the Government in the promotion of natural rubber trade;

(7) To seek agreement or to establish rules of conduct for members to observe to ensure efficient conducting of the natural rubber trade;
(8) To arbitrate in any conflict between members themselves or between members and person, or persons outside the association in matters related to the natural rubber trade;
(9) To abstain from political activities;
(10) To own an immovable property by buying or receiving with fascination or being donated in order to run all activities of the Association;
(11) To publish monthly news distribute to members and others.
(12) To organize activities in order to get an income; for example: Annual Dinner and Golf Tournament.
(13) To arrange conferences and seminars, both in Country and abroad.
(14) To participate as a member of the other associations, both in Country and abroad.

(15) To donate or support for any activities of the other associations within Country and abroad.
(16) To obtain the annual membership subscription fee, the extraordinary subscription fee, donation fee from members and general person.
(17) To proceed any matter depending on the agreement and assignment of the meeting.

5. To be a center of cooperation among producers & consumers included seeking for any resolutions in rubber-business problems for mutual victory together between producers & consumers.
6. To build up a close relationship among all TRA members & the Association in order to achieve the firm development of Thai rubber industries.
