This activity will enable students to understandshort, simple texts on familiar matters.

Students are supposed to read the texts and find theregions the holidaymakers visited.

Students have already been familiar with the cities inthe text and these cities’ cultural and natural qualities.They will be introduced with new phrases and newwords. They will guess the meanings of them from thecontext by the help of the visuals given in the previousactivity.

You should tell them they will get the main idea ofthe context and they should focus on the main idea.

Allocate students some time to read the text. Youmay ask them to read aloud individually in turns.

You had better read out the text for them in order toget them accustomed to pronunciation of some words.After they have read the text and the regions, elicit theanswer.

3. Read the brochure. Find the regions theholidaymakers visited this time.

This activity will enable students to find specific,predictable information in simple everyday material.Students are supposed to read the text and understand itand then they are supposed to find and write the cities.

Allocate your students some time to read the text.Before they start reading, you should focus them on thecities’ descriptions in the text. Tell them they should payattention to the qualities of each cities, so they caneasily find the cities.

Turkey has a very rich history and cultural heritage. We visited the BlackSea Region, the Central Anatolian Region, the Marmara Region and TheMediterranean Region. This time the tour took us to the historic cities in theeast and southeast of Turkey.

The first stop was 1)____________ . Thiscity is famous for its pistachios and its dessert,baklava. We went to see the city by bus. First, wevisited Yesemek. It is a Hittite school of thesculpture, then we visited the Kargamış the FıratRiver. It was a Hittite capital. Second, we saw

Belkıs (Zeugma). The mosaics were so beautiful there. The next day we wenton a picnic in the Dülük forest. We had a barbecue and ate shish kebab and weenjoyed the local food in the restaurants. They were really tasty and spicy.

The next city on the tour was 2)____________. The city is very fantasticand it has some very famous historical sites. We were fascinated with Hittitesculptures in the city museum. We visited the Taş Medrese. Of course, weate ice cream. The city is famous for its ice cream, dried peppers and woodenfurniture. We bought some souvenirs for our families and friends.

Before we went to Kahramanmaraş, wewere in 3)_________ . It is important for its cotton and silk products and itis also famous for its leather products. There are vineyards and olive groves.We visited Canbolat Bey Complex. There are old baths and a center. Wevisited Ravanda Castle. It was fantastic. We could see the ruins from Hittite,Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic times in Kuzeyne (Korus). It was an openair museum.

The scenery was really wonderful when we were at thesummit of the mountain. The sun was rising and we could see the statues ofApollo, Zeus, Hercules, Tyche and Antiochus there. They were gigantic.

On the sixth day, we were in 5)____________ . We had a sightseeing tour inthe city center We visited the old houses in the city and took some pictures. Wevisited Rızvaniye Mosque and fed the fish in the lake. We ate çiğ köfte, dolmawhile we were watching local folkloric dance performance and listening to folksongs.

Finally, the stone houses of 7)________________ welcomed us. In short, thecity was very beautiful. There were a lot of historic buldings. While we were takinga sightseeing tour in the city, we met some actors and actresses in the streets. Then,we learnt that they were filming a Turkish soap opera. We visited the city museumand also Deyrulzafaran Monastery. We visited the Kasım Paşa Medrese. It wasremarkable. Then, we visited the İsa Bey Medrese and enjoyed the MesopotamianPlain. We bought silver jewellery. People called it as telkari in Midyat. It was acultural holiday and we enjoyed our tour. We both had a good time and learnt many things about the cities.
