Group 1CONTRA INDICATIONS

GROUP 2REASONS, BENEFITS & EFFECTS OF TREATMENT

GROUP 3HISTORY AND TYPE OF CURRENT AND WAVE FORMS

Session 10

Session 10

Migraine Epilepsy Avoid passing the current through the eyeball Malignant tumours and undiagnosed lumps Avoid areas of recent bruising or any bleeding Pregnancy Through the cardiac area Collagen implants may move about Heart conditions Cuts and abrasions Near collagen implants Botox injections Plus all other contra-indications for electrical treatments

Session 10

To improve the appearance of sagging muscles Firms and lifts muscle myofibrils Improves the appearance of stretch marks Improves the appearance of cellulite Improves skin texture and colour Alters body contours Reduces oedema Preventative measure to slow down body’s ageing process

Session 10

Stimulates the body’s own natural bio/electrical impulses, it revitalises and encourages natural regenerative actions in the muscles and tissues

Stimulates the production of elastin and collagen within the dermis tissue via the fibro blasts, re-educating collagen and elastin cells to absorb moisture and function correctly, improving production by up to 40%

Increases lymphatic drainage thus reducing oedema and puffiness in tissues

Re-educates the muscles, lifting and toning them Increases energy in the muscles by increasing production of ATP

(adenosine triphosphate) Relaxing/enhances skin’s appearance Stimulates the metabolism resulting in cellular activity, eg mitosis,

leading to improved skin texture; reduces or diminishes scar tissue Stimulates blood circulation which leads to improved skin colour Tightens collagen bundles

Session 10

All general health and safety precautions should be taken as for other body machines plus:

keep electrodes wet or well gelled thoughout treatment to keep conductivity

do not apply either type of electrode on one area for longer than 15 seconds

follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully of the brand of machine you are using.

Session 10

The micro-current was developed for the medical field to treat stroke victims etc. Due to its ability to re-educate muscles it transferred into the beauty industry.

Each micro-current machine varies. However they combine a modified direct current with a low frequency range generally. The programmes are preset as to the selection of waveforms and timing for different effects during treatment. It can be used on the body and face for a range of effects and benefits, such as to improve blood circulation, firming and tightening of tissues.

Micro-current is a thousand times smaller than a milliamp and a million times smaller than an amp. As the current intensity is low there is less stimulation of sensory nerves; this makes the treatment more tolerable to the client as there is little sensation experienced.

Session 10

synergic rectangular square ramp trapezoidal saw tooth

Session 10

A course of treatment is required two or three times a week for ten to fourteen treatments initially, depending on the condition of muscles and skin, then maintenance treatments fortnightly or monthly depending on results achieved and the client’s time and finances.

Once results achieved a general maintenance of 2 – 3 courses a year is advised.

Allow half an hour for a single body treatment.

Session 10

Lifting or grab

Using both electrodes one probe is placed at the origin of the muscle lightly, the other is placed on the insertion and is lifted towards the origin

Slide

Both probes start at the belly of the muscle and move away from each other (stretched apart)

Gliding

One probe is stationary at the origin of the muscle, the other moves towards it (shorten) or moves away from it with the gliding movement (stretching)

Session 10

The programmes for body treatments tend to comprise of:• circulation• tightening• tightening• firming

These programmes are performed with large bar type probes which the therapist uses after applying a suitable product to conduct the current and aid smooth application of treatment. Light and firm pressure is used by the therapist to lift the tissues or rollers depending on the make of the unit.

Session 10

When to return for next treatment

Recommend skincare products to support effectiveness of micro-current treatment

Give lifestyle advice to support effectiveness of treatment

1. Consultation2. If client shows interest in a course of

treatment then body measurements should be taken as an indication of results

3. Once on couch, perform sensitivity testing4. Remove jewellery from area5. Cleanse skin with witch hazel, steritaine6. Explain sensation to client7. Body exfoliation, pre massage

recommended

Session 10

Any questions?

Session 10

Anatomy topic research and produce a learning resource based around this for next Wednesday 6th May
