factoriesThere are many factories and industries which control the amount of pollution they produce, and are very careful to spend money repairing any damage they cause. The people running these factories are very concerned about the environment.

Qian Liwei

productionIf we cut back on the amount of things we produce in order to save the environment, then jobs will be lost. People are more important than fish and trees.

Page 11: Unit 2 The environment The economy or the environment ---- must we choose? Reading (II)

We should produce more things from recycled materials, and less from materials taken directly from the environment.

recycling

lawswe need more effective laws to preserve the environment, which still allow the economy to grow. This includes more inspections to control how many trees are cut down and how many fish boats can catch.

Page 12: Unit 2 The environment The economy or the environment ---- must we choose? Reading (II)

taxes

Factories which pollute the environment should have to pay higher taxes.

My aim in life is to save the for future generations. I want to become an environmentalist after I finish school. Too many people think that cannot be stopped if we want the to continuedeveloping. But that is ridiculous. We can dangerous and dirty from factories if we aresmart about what we buy. I want to teach people to buy products. The production of recycled things is muchbetter for the environment, because it means we do notneed to cut down more trees and cause the destructionof more forests. The will still grow, but Earth willnot have to suffer.

We should also pay attention to what we eat. People should take for not buying certain kinds of fish, because there are not many left in the ocean.we also have a problem with . The number of people in the world keeps growing, and we are producingmore rubbish. What if we run out of space? If we all worktogether, we can solve these problems and keep clean and healthy.
