WOMENS WEAR COLLECTION

SPRING / SUMMER

2012-13

I done some research for river island, On www.riverisland.com. I looked for designs that matched in with my theme. I found some images of garments that contrasted with my tribal theme. I looked closely at the garments and drew up illustrations and started to edit them using trends and inspira-tion from my research into river island women’s clothing collection. You will see in the following pages the different designs I was able to create using www.pixlir.com and all its different tools.

WOMENS WEAR COLLECTION

SPRING / SUMMER

2012-13

Pink floral print bow back, co-

coon prom dress for pretty party style.

Black Aztec tunic print dress Aztec prints in this black aztec print bodycon dress

Red geometric print waisted maxi dress

Images that I took from www.riverisland.co.uk. These garments had a taste of tribal theme and that’s why I chose them.

MOOD BOARD

My mood board was made on www.pixlir.com. I used different tools to create this mood board by computer. To find colours and create a definite colour/mood board for my theme which I have used over all my units which is tribal, I used the colour-drop tool and many other tools like smudge, lasso tool and the select box. Using a combination of the tools that our on offer on pixlir I was able to create this tribal mood board. It was my first time using pixlir when I created the mood board so I think it turned out pretty well. I looks professional and the theme is clearly read from the mood board. Its more a mix of tribal patterns and clothing which incorporates fur and beads etc.. .

MY

ILLUSTRATIONS

(digitally drawn, hand

drawn and edited)

MAXI DRESSES

I researched different women’s clothing and found this lovely maxi dress on the www.river-island.com website I drew an illustration based those findings from my research into the recent trends.

Bodycon maxi dress– Tribal design pattern

Tribal trail Body con, maxi with sleeves

Maxi dress cut out at sides with a Tribal design pattern. I used pixlir to edit the sketch which I drew by hand and scanned onto the computer.

Using www.pixlir.com I coloured he same im-age using a colour drop tool the image looks really well coloured.

I used different kin tones to see what the de-sign would look like.

DIFFERENT COLOURS AND STYLES

Using the smudge tool on pixlir, I was able to create this amazing looking pattern on the dress.

I also solarised the image to show how it would look in different colours. The bright col-ours look really well I think this design would be quite popular.

PATTERNS AND COLOURS

This shows the image with the pattern on the dress smudged and also in old colour. I liked the difference of colour that I got when applying this tool to the image.

Sunshine sky For this image I used the same image scanned at the start and using www.pixlir.com. I was able to add on and rub out what pieces of the image I still wanted. I then used the dropper tool to colour in the image using bright colours referring to river island colour scheme for 2012-13. I then used the smudge tool to change the image slightly and add pattern.

Pastel Perfection I also used pixlr.com to edit this image I used colours that are on trend at the minute in river island. I used a dropper tool which colour each shape that’s clicked on. I used a range of pastel colours that are popular in river island and on trend for spring/summer2012/13.

Aqua vibe This image is from river island’s women’s dresses section. AQUA LITTLE MISTRESS EMBELLISHED PROM DRESS A pretty party look in this aqua bandeau prom dress with gem and bead embellished top over fine pleats. full layered skirt with lace underlay and remov-able straps.

I used pixlir.com to edit this image I drew on legs with the sketchy pencil tool and changed the width and colour of the pencil I also drew on a skirt a and changed the appearance of the front of the dress.

Perfect peach I used Pixlir.com to edit this image. I drew on legs using the pencil sketchy tool. I drew on a full skirt. Then I used the colour tool to identify the colour in the image of a dress from river island collec-tion. I used that colour in my image by using the dropper tool. I think this design for n well with the style for S/S 2012-13.

Aqua vibe 2 Again using a dress form the collection at river island I used a colour tool to find the colour then dropped it onto my illustration. I also used the pencil and sketchy tool to edit the image and add legs and change the style of the dress.

Unique mix (peach, aqua) I used the same colours from the two im-ages of the dresses from the river island collection. I mix and matched the colours of two dresses from river island onto my illustra-tion design which I edited using pixlir.com and using the sketchy pencil. The colours are on trend and look well to-gether I think this design would be a good seller in a collection for s/s 2012-13.

Tribal surprise I edited this image by dropping bright colours onto the image. This image is based more on my over all theme of tribal. I made it bright and colourful using the S/S 12-13 colour scheme.

This working drawing is of my image to the right it is a design based on the tribal theme. I drew it in pencil and scanned it on I edit it using www.pixlir.com. I used the lasso tool to cut out the image and tidy it up a bit.

This image has been edited on www.pixlir.com. I cropped the image using the lasso tool and tidied it up.

FLAT DRAWINGS DREW ON THE PIXLIR BY HAND (digitally)

I used www.pixlir.com to create this flat drawing of a tube dress with a zip on the back. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of the drawing and I would love to use this technique more when doing my work as it looks a lot more profes-sional. I think it was tricky to do but very effective when I got the hang of it and brilliant out-comes.

EVALUATION

For Task 2, I had to experiment with digital media, using samples of art and design work and present Working Examples of Digital Art and Design Techniques for Fashion. In this unit I had to put myself into the shoes of someone who was working with a top high street retailer producing a womens wear collection for Spring/Summer. I choose to use RIVER ISLAND as my retailer and I researched into there trends and styles for S/S 2012-13. I selected a few designs from river island women’s dress range and developed harmonizing garment designs which reflect my chosen theme for my collection which is tribal. I created

Annotated Digital Fashion research “book” Mood board Illustrations Flat Drawings

I researched on the river island website to find designs that would fit my theme, then I used those to help me create my collec-tion. I created a mood board that linked in with my tribal theme and I used different aspects of tribal design and pattern in the mood board. My illustrations I started to draw illustrations basing it on a maxi dress image I found on riverisland.com. I firstly drew my design in pencil then edit it on pixlir by using the rubbing out tool and the pencil and paint brush tools in different sizes. After drawing the image that I was inspired to do from the findings from my research I was able to develop my designs and come up with many different de-signs always keeping my theme and colour scheme in mind. I changed the garments shape, colour, style, and the way it sits on the body. I tried using many aspects of the tribal design and tried to create as many designs for the collection as possible. My own illustrations based on an illustrators drawings- I drew more detailed illustrations with the garments from the research I used different colours and patterns to show the collection on a different model I used inspiration from Laura Laine’s illustrations.

Flat drawings I showed images of flat drawings which I produced my self also I used the online website pixlir to draw digitally a flat drawing of a tube dress it turned out very well I was surprised at the results and would like to try using the computer a lot more often to create my flat drawings as they look more professional done on the computer.

I enjoyed this unit I was able to explore the digital media side of design and it was very enjoyable and interesting to learn how to use all the different techniques that pixlir and photo shop have to offer. It was really good being able to just transform one design into another instead of starting from scratch each time. I liked how professional the images looked when coloured in on the photo -shop or pixlir. I was good at using the colour drop and lasso tools, I just experimented with colour and techniques for things I wasn't so good at. I liked digitally drawing flat drawings and also editing the images. I think its a great way to create professional images and its easy but it takes a lot of time so if I had a lot of time to experiment with the digital image packages I would hope to come up with some amazing digital creations. It was enjoying using pixir for the first time to create my mood board it was fun and interesting as I was creating it based on my overall theme– tribal so I was enjoying the work too. I was bad at trying to rub out on the lines and getting the whole image not to change colour instead of just parts of it. I took me a while to learn how to properly use the layers to create the image correctly and I still get it wrong but I get there in the end and get my finished image so practise makes perfect were the digital programmes come along. I learnt from looking at other work of illustrators and designers was to let the person/ model wear the garment when I wad draw-ing before it was like the model had to fit into the clothing now after research I've realised the clothing should be fitting onto the model/person and all the normal body features should still be noticeable. I also learnt that there are no limits to what can be cre-ated in digital imaging. I was excited to think what I could create after each new piece of information I learnt on using digital me-dia. I would have planned out my time more so I could take more time on my digital designs. And I would try different techniques on the pixlir and Photoshop programmes to see what I could create. I really enjoyed this unit and it learnt me a lot and that using digital media is a lot more professional looking especially in the fash-ion industry.
