The Daily Mail (January 23rd 2014) reports shocking news on abuse, neglect of an elderly domiciliary care patient. Pensioner catches care worker stealing cash from her purse - on a camera she installed to find out why her money kept disappearing. The Secret camera showed Nadia Summers, 24, stashing money in her bra. Housebound Lynette Nardone, 64 , was convinced she was being robbed. She reported her suspicion to her family after the care home she is registered with reported they was no way care worker(Nadia) was stealing from her. The family installed 1,000 CCTV system used to convict care worker thief. Mrs Lynette Nardone is house bound and suffers from a rare debilitating neuro-degenerative disease. Nasia was then caught on camera a further two times stealing 20 notes from the vulnerable patient's purse.

In court Mrs Lynette reports the following: She said: 'Nadia's actions have cost me so much more than just 60 from my purse or 1,000 for cameras.'She has taken away what little trust and faith I had left. It has been hard for me to accept that I need help, and allowing strangers into my home as carers has been yet another challenge.'I felt helpless to accuse the people who care for me, fearing a 'my word against theirs' situation.'I was frightened to upset them in case they took it out on me. I depend on people.'I hope Nadia can never again cause any other vulnerable person the distress and heartache that she has caused me.'Nobody deserves to feel like a victim in their own home at a time when what they need and deserve the most is support and care and dignity.'

Explain what is abuse, harm or danger? and how individual can respond to abuse including harm to self? According to what happened in this scenario explain how individual may be vulnerable to this type of practice.

One of your at risk teenager aged 15 tells you in private that another youth worker comes to his room at night.

4.Social Worker A woman with previous history of domestic abuse from her ex-husband. Has reported that she is 3 months pregnant. She is too scared to live with him. She has bruises all over her face and neck.

You will carry a research of national policies i.e. Safeguarding- SOVA/POVA, No Secrets Valuing people now, the Health Select Committees Inquiry into Elder Abuse, Health Care Standard Act 2010 , Mental capacity Act 2005, Data protection Act 1998 and different working practices and strategies used to minimize abuse in health and social care.

At the end of this assignment, you will be confident to give information for 20 minutes. As a group on your evaluation of the effectiveness of these working practice and policies used in minimizing abuse. The Academic poster is assessed invidually.
