Vocabulary• I spend a lot of time in the Grassmarket,

which is just a few minutes’ walk from Edinburgh Castle. It’s a spacious market square which is lined by magnificent stone townhouses, many of them dating from (追溯到 ) the sixteenth century. Some of the buildings are eight or nine storeys high – among the tallest in the city. Each house has a different style to its neighbour but together the buildings create a feeling of harmony(协调 ). The Grassmarket doesn’t get as crowded with tourists as other parts of the old town and there are a couple of charming cafés on the square where I sometimes go with friends between lectures(讲课 ). We just sit and enjoy the tranquil(安静的 ) atmosphere – it’s really magic!
