Robert Burns, a poor man, an educated man, and a ladies’ man, is a representative of Scotland. He lived a life shortened by rheumatic heart disease, 1759-1796, but his life journey through poverty, informal education, disappointed love, nationalism, and literary and financial success can be identified by all Scots and common men. He has become almost a national symbol of all things. His life is like a love story with a happy ending.

donated money to support his widow and children. The monument in honor of him was first displayed to the public in 1877.

3. The house in Alloway, where Burns was born, is now a museum of his life and work.

A Red, Red RoseO, my luve’s like a red, red rose,That’s newly sprung in June:O, my luve’s like the melodie,That’s sweetly play’d in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,So deep in luve am I:And I will luve thee still, my dear,Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,And the rocks melt wi' the sun!And I will luve thee still, my dear,While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve,And fare thee weel, a while! And I will come again, my luve,Tho' it were ten thousand mile!
