Identify the complete subject and the simple subjects.

Rules Every complete subject has a

simple subject. It is the main word that tells

whom or what the sentence is about.

Examples: Many bats live in caves.

The body of the bat is small.

Rules The simple subject can

sometimes be exactly the same as the complete subject.

Examples: They sleep during the day.

Bats look like mice with wings.

Rules Sometimes the simple subject

may be several words that name a person or a place.

Examples: Linda Lee Carver showed us a

picture.

South America is the home of many bats.

Cavefish live in dark underwater caves.

Kim Lee told us about cavefish.

These fish lack ordinary eyesight.

Their other senses take the place of sight.
