Welcome

Sisters of MBM,

We are so glad to have you join us at Women’s Conference 2021!

At the heart of every conference, we just want to see women’s lives continue to be transformed through Jesus to the glory of God. Whilst it was incredibly exciting planning for a face to face conference, we realised that as we faced a lockdown and an online platform, God still transforms hearts.

So here we are, excited and expectant, because we know faithful teaching, fellowship and application of His word will still happen!

But why this topic of Unfading Glory?

We live in a time where everything ‘glorious’ ultimately fades away.

People forget, trends change, and there’s always the ‘next big thing’.

Women, what if instead we looked to our amazing, unchanging God.

• Let’s be rendered speechless by the bigness of God’s glory.

• Let’s be filled with awe by the God who has shown His unfading glory to us with unveiled faces!

• Let’s be comforted and honoured that God has imparted his glory to us!

But what does this all mean? We are so excited to unpack this today as we dive into the wonderful books of Exodus and 2 Corinthians. We hope you are ready! Swords out!

Today is an awesome reflection of the unity we have in Christ as all of our MBM campuses gather together under God’s Word.

We have so much to celebrate and sisters to honour amongst us - God is doing an amazing work by His Spirit.

Our committee has found such joy in working hard, praying boldly, and displaying the unity and gifts God has given to us in Christ to bless the body.

Our prayer is that whether you come into today fatigued by screens, exhausted, or even pumped! - you would be transformed by God’s character and his unfading glory!

Love,

The Women’s Conference Committee Team

Teresa loves Jesus, loves hunting for good food, doing the laundry (favourite chore, seriously!) but doesn’t love washing up. Ever since trusting in Jesus for herself at age 7, she’s been on the slow journey of learning to follow Jesus daily and listen to him more and more through His Word, and she loves to help others do that too. Teresa is wife to Dan and mum to Maddie, Elijah, Alethea (and Evie who is now with Jesus). It’s been 10

years since Teresa and her family have been part of the MBM Rooty Hill family, and she’s enjoyed the last few months at the new MBM Parramatta campus too! When there’s free time(?)... learning Chinese, reading, and learning to crochet are usually on the cards, as well as popcorn with a corny movie or (quality) reality TV. Ideally all this is done after a day at the beach and a solid afternoon nap.

In chapter 32 of Exodus, Moses goes up the mountain to meet with God and write the 10 commandments on the stone tablets. While he is away the people of Israel become impatient thinking he will not return. They ask Aaron to make them a god they can worship. Aaron fashions them a golden calf and they worship it. Moses intercedes for the people of Israel and asks God to remember his promises to Abraham. The people of Israel mourn for their sins and God continues to lead them. God spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting. “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face as one speaks to a friend.” Moses’ close relationship with God shows God’s grace and love to all people and his desire that they draw near to him in repentance and faith.

Read Exodus 33:18-23

• In Exodus 33:18 Moses asks God to show him his glory. What do you think the word glory means?

• What will God allow to pass in front of Moses? (Exodus 33:19)

• In Exodus 33:20 we see that God plans to protect Moses from his goodness. Why does he need to do that?

Zoom group #1

Read Exodus 34:29-35

• How was Moses changed by being in God’s presence? Can we also be changed by spending time with God?

Optional | Read Psalm 145 to find the answers to the questions that follow.

Psalm 145 (NIV) 1 I will exalt you, my God the King;

I will praise your name for ever and ever.

2 Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.

3 Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. 4 One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. 5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty - and I will meditate on your wonderful works. 6 They tell of the power of your awesome works - and I will proclaim your great deeds. 7 They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

9 The Lord is good to all;

Page 14: unfading glory - mbm.org.au

12

he has compassion on all he has made. 10 All your works praise you, Lord; your faithful people extol you. 11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, 12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. 14 The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does. 18 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. 20 The Lord watches over all who love him,

but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.

Page 15: unfading glory - mbm.org.au

13

• Who is God? (Underline the words in the Psalm that show who God is.)

• How does God act? (Circle the words that show how God acts.)

• How do people in the psalm respond to God? (Draw a box around this part of the psalm.)

• Which part of God’s character do you most appreciate currently? Why are you most thankful for this?

• Take time to praise God for WHO he is and WHAT he has done for us. Also ask God to help us as we share Jesus and his love with our families, friends and people who don’t know Jesus.

Session 2 Zoom group #2

In chapter 3 of 2 Corinthians, Paul compares the new covenant of salvation that comes through faith in Christ, with the old covenant law between God and Israel. The new covenant is more glorious than the old because it produces life, brings righteousness, and reveals a glory that is permanent. Those who see Jesus clearly see the glory of God on earth. This begins a transformation, changing those who trust in Him to become more like Him by the power of the Holy Spirit.

In 2 Corinthians 4:7, Paul talks about jars of clay which were commonly used for storage in biblical times. The potter would make each unique pot by hand which could have multiple purposes. Some were used for storing liquids, food, ingredients for cooking or even important documents. The pots were also fragile, prone to being chipped, cracked, or broken. They were not permanent storages places but temporary.

Read 2 Corinthians 4

• Discuss what the treasure and jars of clay in v.5-7 might mean.

• Why has God chosen to put this treasure in clay jars (v.7-10)?

Page 18: unfading glory - mbm.org.au

16

• What difficulties are you facing in your current season of life? (2 Corinthians 4:8-10). How have you found ways to glorify God during these challenges?

• What hope is offered in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18?

• How can we keep our eyes fixed on what is unseen and eternal rather than seen and temporary (4:18)?

Page 19: unfading glory - mbm.org.au

Session 3 Look and see!

2 Corinthians 3:7-4:6

Looking for the latest

The Spirit’s ministry is even more glorious than Moses’ ministry… (v.7-11)

Moses’ covenant covers up God’s glory, but the new covenant unveils and transforms… (v.13-18)

Page 20: unfading glory - mbm.org.au

18

…therefore we can be bold and filled with hope (v.12)

… therefore we don’t lose heart (4:1, 6)
