A performance piece set in one of Exeter’s oldest buildings. An audience of 39 is invited to dinner, to eat and drink with Reckless Sleepers while they tell, and then eat the last words of the famous, the not so famous, criminals, victims, heroes, heroines and stars. Including real scenarios, invented scenarios, scenarios in the future and

A festival that takes art and performance out of traditional venues and into unexpected indoor and outdoor locations across the city.

The Cultural Olympiad demonstrated how it can be done. Some 50,000 people flooded into Exeter to participate in the Torch Relay Event in 2012. Culture - sports, arts, heritage, and education - is vital to Exeter, bringing visitors into the city to support local business, improve the economy, improve quality of life, and help raise the profile of the city in the region and beyond. Unexpected is a new venture, that the City Council would like to see develop in the future to become part of the annual festival programme, not only in the city, but in the UK.

The programme features music, performance, dance, circus, digital work, visual arts, sport, heritage buildings, city centre spaces - and at times a combination of all these. As well as providing a showcase for high quality work from local performers and producers, the festival also brings artists of national and international renown

to the city to work with local people and artists. With the support of funding from the National Lottery via Arts Council England, Unexpected is host to a brand new show, the premiere of the UK’s first fully integrated circus company, Extraordinary Bodies. The company will perform ‘Weighting’ on Cathedral Green, together with the involvement of a mass Exeter Choir, as the finale event of Circus Sunday and Unexpected 2013.

So from the action packed Family Funday on the Quayside to sampling some of the thrills and spills of Circus Sunday, come along and join in!
