Verizons Internet of Things segment recorded $217 million in revenue in the third quarter, up 24% from the prior-year period. That looks small in the context of the companys total quarterly revenue of $30.9 billion, but Verizons IoT business should see strong growth spurred by acquisitions, internal development, and acceleration of the connectivity trend.

Verizon formed its 5G Technology Forum (V5GTF) in late 2015 with partners Cisco, Ericsson, Intel, LG, Nokia, Qualcomm, and Samsung. The V5GTF has created a standardized platform for Verizons 5G mobile routers and network testing. Infographic source: LTC Commission report pg 23
The company is producing hardware to connect smart cars in addition to building out connected fleet software and delivering smart-city solutions for intelligent video, traffic management, and lighting.
