After three thousand years of explosion, by means of fragmentary and mechanical technologies,
the Western world is imploding.
We approach the final phase of the extensions
of man -
the technological simulation of
consciousness…
… the creative process of knowing will be collectively extended to the
whole of human society
The globe is no more than a village
It is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that
the medium is the message
It was the machine, not what we did with the machine, that was its meaning or message
HELLO WORLD
The ‘message’ of any technology is the change of scale or pace or pattern that it introduces
in human affairs.
When IBM discovered that it was not in the business of making business machines,
but that it was in the
business of processing information,
then it began to navigate with clear vision.
Under electric technology, the entire business of man
becomes learning and knowing.
All forms of wealth result
from the movement of information
In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is not king. He is taken to be a hallucinated lunatic.

Man in the electric age has returned psychically and socially to the nomad state.
Now, however, it is called information gathering and data processing.
In education, the conventional division of the curriculum into subjects is outdated.
Any subject taken in depth at once relates to other subjects.
Continued in their present patterns of fragmented unrelation, our school curricula will insure a citizenry unable to understand the cybernated world in which we live.
