Legislative Intern ProgramStudents gain valuable experience in this placement by spending the spring semester of each biennial legislative session in Bismarck, N.D., working as interns with the Legislative Council. Students are assigned to work with various legislative committees on legislative issues, drafting legislation, and statutory interpretation.
Federal and State Externships, Internships & Clerkships
Students gain real-life lawyering experience while earning academic credit in our Externship Program. The program promotes learning through active participation in the student’s field placement. Students in the Externship Program receive intensive supervision from the on-site supervisor as well as direction from a faculty supervisor.
Justice Mary MaringNorth Dakota Supreme Court Justice Mary Maring is a 1975 graduate. She said, “When I look back, I feel my education prepared me to do everything I wanted, from my clerkship, for my private practice and ultimately,
for my position as North Dakota Supreme Court Justice.” Justice Maring serves as an excellent example of the tradition of success for our graduates. A sense of pride among our graduates creates a strong alumni network that spreads across the country and around the world.
Preparing practice-ready graduates is a focus of the educational program at the Law School. From your first day on campus through commencement, you will equip yourself for practice. Students work with live clients in the Clinical Education Program. Through hands-on experiential learning you will build the skills and values for a rewarding career.
