STRUCTURE
The Forum will showcase four high-impact projects that are meant to help advance traditional philanthropy in the direction of smart targeted investments and creative partnerships, with a specific goal of garnering new commitments to aid in their implementation.
Sample topics and projects include
+ One Million Community Healthcare Workers, + Educate a Child Initiative, + Capacity Building of Ministries, + Innovations and technological advancements in Education, Health, Job Creation, and Youth Empowerment.
Other MDG Advocates and industry leaders will provide constructive feedback on the presentations. This format will enable participants to interact with speakers and explore collaboration.
Outcomes
Each of the four projects is expected to garner new commitments to help achieve success. Commitments need not only be financial. Where appropriate, they can be offers of technical expertise, advocacy, and a commitment to coordinate on a common strategy.
oVERVIEW
The goal of the MDG Advocate-led Innovation Forum is to catalyze connections to accelerate progress on the MDGs. The Secretary-General will open the Forum, which will begin with a discussion on pioneering initiatives aimed at MDG acceleration. Leaders in four key fields – education, health, food security and sustainable growth – will take part.
The Secretary-General’s Advocates, with their unique roles as luminaries in their respective fields, will elaborate on four initiatives that have the potential for large scale impact on the MDGs.

Mr. Ray Chambers Ray Chambers is a philanthropist and humanitarian who directs most of his efforts towards at-risk youth. Mr. Ray Chambers is the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy for health millennium development goals financing and malaria. He is also founding Chairman of the Points of Light Foundation, co-founder of America’s Promise — The Alliance for Youth, National Mentoring Partnership and Malaria No More.
Ms. Geena DavisGeena Davis is an Academy Award®-winning actress and the founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. The non-profit institute’s aim is to change female portrayals and gender stereotypes in children’s media and entertainment through research, education and advocacy. Geena Davis is the International Telecommunication Union ( ITU)’s Special Envoy for Women and Girls in ICT, an official partner of UN Women and Chair of the California Commission on the Status of Women.
Mr. Amir Dossal Amir Dossal is Founder and Chairman of the Global Partnerships Forum, an international platform working to address economic and social challenges, through the creation of innovative partnerships. Amir Dossal is also the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union for Global Partnerships and a Commissioner of the Broadband Commission. Previously Amir Dossal was the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Partnerships.
Mr. Philippe Douste-BlazyMr. Philippe Douste-Blazy is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts on innovative financing to reach the Millennium Development Goals. He is Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General on Innovative Finance for Development and board Chair of UNITAID. Mr. Phillip Douste-Blazy is also a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Health, Minister of Culture and Communication, Minister for Solidarity, Health and Family and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the government of France.

Gary M. GohenMr. Gary M. Cohen serves as an Executive Vice President of Becton Dickinson Pty., Ltd. a medical technology company servicing healthcare institutions, life science researchers, clinical laboratories, industry and the general public. He serves as a Director of Academic Alliance Foundation. He serves as a Director of the United States Fund for UNICEF, the CDC Foundation. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Rutgers University and the Board of Advisors of the Rutgers Business School.
Mr. Martin EdlundMr. Martin Edlund is a founding member and the CEO of Malaria No More. He has been very successful in forging high profile partnerships. Prior to this he worked as the Communications Director for Millennium Promise, as a journalist for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Republic and Slate and as a political consultant in Washington, D.C., specializing in online campaign strategies.
Per Heggenes Per Heggens is the CEO of IKEA Foundation. Previously he was the Global Head of Corporate Affairs and member of the Global Executive Team at Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, the President and CEO for Burson-Marsteller UK and Co-CEO for Burson Marsteller Europe. Per Heggens holds an MBA from the University of Augsburg. He also served in the Norwegian Air Force.
Charlie F. HoughCharlie F. Hough is Head Strategy, Corporate Social Responsibility at Novartis. He holds a Master of Management, Marketing, Finance from the Kellogg School of Management and a BA in Economics and Political Science from Yale University.
Iqram Magdon-Ismail, Is the co-Founder of Venmo, Venmo offers an App that enables payments through mobile phones. He studied Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
Pat MitchellPat Mitchell’s diverse background in media includes work as a journalist and producer and executive. She has worked in front of the camera and behind, anchoring the news and reporting for broadcast networks. Pat Mitchell was the first woman to launch, produce and host her own nationally syndicated Emmy winning talk program “Woman to Woman”. As President of CNN Productions she produced award-winning documentaries that have been recognized with 44 Emmy awards, five Peabody’s, and two Academy Award nominations. Pat Mitchell became the first woman President and CEO of PBS, and is currently the President and CEO of the Paley Center for Media whose mission is to optimize the power of media to inform, inspire, entertain and empower. Mitchell is a sought after speaker and has been honored numerous times for her achievements. Pat serves on many non-profit and corporate boards and on the corporate board of AOL.

Mahmoud MohieldinMr. Mohieldin is the Special Envoy for the President of the World Bank. He coordinates the World Bank Group agenda on the Millennium Development Goals and the Post-15 Process and the World Bank’s efforts to strengthen partnerships with the UN, multilateral development institutions, and the G-20. Mahmoud Mohieldin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick and a Master of Science in Economic and Social Policy Analysis from the University of York.
Dr. Mary Joy Pigozzi Dr. Mary Joy Pigozzi is the Director of the Educate a Child (EAC) Program at the Office of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. She is also Group Director at FHI 360. Previously she has been Senior Advisor for Primary Education at UNESCO and Senior Advisor for education at UNICEF. Mary Joy Pigozzi holds a doctorate in education from Michigan State University.
Mr. Malcolm PrestonMr. Malcolm Preston is Global Head of Sustainability and Climate Change at PwC. He specializes in all aspects of Sustainability Reporting, including the measurement and valuation of environmental, social and economic impacts.
Prof. Je!rey SachsJeffrey Sachs is a world-renowned professor of economics and is widely considered as one of the leading thinkers in the field of economic development, poverty alleviation and environmental sustainability. Prof. Jeffrey Sachs is Director of the Earth Institute Columbia University and Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University. Previously he had been a professor at Harvard University for more than twenty years. Prof. Jeffrey Sachs has been special advisor to the UN Secretary General on the Millennium Development Goals under both Ban Ki-moon and Kofi Annan.
Mr. Ted TurnerTed Turner is the founder and chair of UN Foundation. He is famous for his sharp business skills, his philanthropy and his dedication to environmental sustainability. He is also the founder of CNN, the chairman of Turner Enterprises Inc. and Turner Foundation as well as the Co-Chairman of the Nuclear Threat Initiative.
Dr. Hamadoun TouréDr. Hamadoun Touré is the Secretary-General of the United Telecommunication Union (ITU) and is committed to advancing ITC’s potential to contribute to the achievement of the MDGs. He is also the Co-Vice Chair of the Broadband Commission. Dr Touré holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of Leningrad, and a PhD from the University of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of Moscow.

Hans VestbergHans Vestberg is the President and CEO of Ericsson Group. He is a leading advocate of the Millennium Development Goals, and for the potential of mobility and broadband to tackle some of the world’s most compelling issues such as poverty, health, education and climate change. He is a founding member of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development and a member of the Leadership Council of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
Corinne WoodsCorinne Woods currently serves as Director of the UN Millennium Campaign, which supports citizens’ efforts to hold their governments accountable for achieving the Millennium Development Goals and leads the outreach to citizens and stakeholders to get their voices and concerns to feed into the Post-2015 global development agenda. Previously, she served in a variety of roles at UNICEF, including as Senior Adviser on the HIV/AIDS Global Campaign Coordination and as Chief of Advocacy and Partnerships in India, the agency’s largest country operation. In the latter post, she put in place systems and processes to manage the advocacy agenda by leveraging media, Parliament and civil society. Corinne was a Senior Advisor on the United Nations Special Session on Children, a General Assembly meeting focused on gaining new commitments for children from governments. Corinne served as Head of Communication for Save the Children UK. She has also advocated for a range of policy and behavioral changes in the field of health through her roles at the UK Health Education Authority and at Munro and Forster Public Relations. Corinne holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Leicester in the UK.
Amb. Dho Young-shim Ambassador Dho Young-shim is the Chairperson of the UN World Tourism Organization’s Sustainable Tourism for Eliminating Poverty (ST-EP) Foundation. She promotes tourism, sports and education to fight poverty in the world’s least developed countries. Previously she was a Member of the Korean Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Chief of Staff of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, Member of the National Assembly and Vice-Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee.
Prof. Muhammad YunusMuhammad Yunus is a Professor of Economics and the founder of Grameen Bank. He founded Grameen Bank in 1983 with the aim to help people out of poverty by providing them with micro loans and by teaching them sound financial principals. In 2006, Yunus and Grameen Bank jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to create economic and social development from below.” In 2011 Prof. Muhammad Yunus co-founded Yunus Social Business – Global Initiatives (YSB), a social business focusing on incubator funds and advisory services in order to create and empower social businesses to address and solve social problems around the world. Prof. Muhammad Yunus is also a board member of the United Nations Foundation.
