The Umbilical Testing & Flushing unit was speci-fically designed for mobile testing applications.

Our customer has specialised in testing of sub sea umbilicals and deliver a complete range of testing services throughout the lifetime of the umbilical.

The mobile testing services are carried out at, the umbilical plant, at quayside during loadout, and offshore during and after installation.

For the flushing test, a 37 kW electric pump gene-rates the necessary flow rate of 55 litres per minute at 300 bar. A flow meter with mass flow and density display provides accurate data for the test record of the flushing tests. A separate sample port for the purity test is installed which is easily accessible in the control platform. This enables our customers to check the samples obtained subsequently with a particle counter.

One Maximator High pressure Pump Type DPD 200 is used to generate the required testing pressure of 1200 bar for the pressure test. The testing liquid Transaqua (MEG = Mono Ethylene Glycol) is provided in two 500 Litre stainless steel tanks, which can be refilled automatically if required. The entire unit is designed as a complete system and weighs approxi-mately 7,5 tons.

In addition to the high certification requirements and the advanced features of the Umbilical Testing and Flushing unit, in particular the compact design of that unit was one of the great challenges of this project. After only 12 weeks of planning, procurement and construction, the project team was finally able to successfully pass the unit to our customer.

For the current Project, Parker Scanrope contracted our customer to perform factory acceptance test (FAT) and post-load-out test of 6 umbilicals destined for the Kasaghan Oil Field which is located in the north Caspian Sea in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The umbilicals are installed in particularly shallow water (4m), and will be covered in ice during win-ter time and exposed to high temperatures during summer time.

The sub sea umbilical will provide chemicals, hyd-raulic fluids and fibre optic communication between the offshore satellite islands in the Caspian Sea.

As the Umbilical Testing and Flushing unit is operated at Parker Scanrope’s factory in Tønsberg Norway, and also Offshore, it was significantly important for our customer that the complete unit including the electrical control platform was installed in one 10ft Offshore Container.
