YOUTH OF DIVERSITY aka “The Lost Boys”The Diversity Foundation assists young men (aka “Lost Boys”) and women who are former members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (“FLDS”), a polygamist community in southern Utah and northern Arizona.

The term, “lost boys”, was coined by the media in reference to the “lost boys of the Sudan”. The two groups share the commonality of being separated from their families with little or no support. In the case of the FLDS, the youth have either been asked or have chosen to leave their community and, consequently faced ostracizing by their families. The reasons for leaving the community vary from exhibiting behaviors that the FLDS practice does not accept to expressing normal teenage rebellion which is not congruent with the LFDS culture, or the pursuit of a formal education and mainstream lifestyle. The Diversity Foundation began assisting the FLDS youth (men, women, and single parent families) in 2002. Our efforts consist of providing the opportunity for a quality education, medical and dental health support, psychological counseling, life skills instruction, and social services.

Many of these young people have excelled scholastically. They continue to receive high marks of achievement in high school and college. They are enthusiastic about their education and have pursued college degrees in areas of engineering, medical, accounting, business, law, psychology, et al.

Because of outside support, The Diversity Foundation can assist these children with the opportunity to be self-determined and contributing adults.

THE SCRAPYARD DETECTIVESA free comic book series devoted to promoting a union and cooperation of young people from differing cultures.

These educational comic books have proven successful in presenting an appreciation of multiculturalism, ethnicity and diversity. Comic books are also an important developmental tool because they engage both the left and right brain to understand language and associate images.

The Diversity Foundation is pleased to give The Scrapyard Detectives as a free educational tool to libraries, educators and community groups.

In 2006, The Diversity Foundation published Scrapyard Detectives #3, the third installment in the series, written by New York Times Bestselling children’s author Jesse Leon McCann. This issue was also pencilled and colored by Scrapyard Detectives co-creator Bill Galvan, inked by Robert Hawkins and lettered by Dave Lanphear. An alternate cover for the San Diego Comic Con International was created by comics great Batton Lash.

GIVING BACKAmerican Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD)

There is no more important need of skill sets than shaping the leadership qualities of our current and future leaders in pediatric dentistry.

The AAPD Foundation Leadership Institute, underwritten by Ultradent Products, Inc., and hosted at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, is the first institute of its kind among dental and medical organizations.

The Association Forum of Chicagoland bestowed the 2005 Association Programming Achievement Award on the Leadership Institute as the best association educational initiative of the previous year. This award from Chicago’s “association of associations” is a tremendous honor representing the Institute’s quality and innovation.

Ultradent Products, Inc. has endowed the Leadership Institute with a $1 million gift to the AAPD Foundation.

FUDRAISERS

Organizations like the March of Dimes and Food Bank often request donations from Ultradent for their most popular fundraiser, silent auctions.

These baskets are assembled by Ultradent employees with product that is available, desired, and of equal value to the request. Baskets are then auctioned off and all proceeds go to the charity or organization running the auction.

Ultradent most often tries to meet the needs of charities and organizations through product donation. Any monetary donation must be approved by management and is considered accordingly.

GLOBUS RELIEF (a company Ultradent is currently establishing a relationship with)

Mission: We are a medical resource humanitarian organization. We are committed to partnering with other charities, Corporations and Governments working to improve the delivery of healthcare across the world. We accomplish the improvement of health care through the following five key deliverables:

AssessmentConsultingAcquiring, Packaging and Distributing (APD)Providing Bio-Tech SolutionsTraining

We reduce unnecessary duplication of efforts among our partners and work to produce a synergistic environment that magnifies effort and social impact.

Globus Relief is an excellent resource for Ultradent product with a short shelf life that is not broken or expired (usually replaced for the customer by another desired product/buyer’s remorse). Therefore, using this otherwise “useless” product for something very useful and good.

INDEPENDENT DENTISTS

Independent dentists seek the help of Ultradent for much needed product to assist in missions to varying third world countries.

Ultradent looks forward to helping these dentists in their quest to serve others and fills product needs as they can—sending them on their way with full backpacks and well wishes in the good they are doing.

This help is generally solicited by a humanitarian relief form downloaded from Ultradent’s website and sent in.

HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS AMONG ULTRADENT EMPLOYEES

Ultradent makes an effort to envolve its employees in its humanitarian efforts. Many activites take place within the company. Some of the most recent and noteable are:

Annual Canned Food Drive (November, yearly)

Ultradent employees compete “against” eachother and an outside company (ie: EBAY) for the winner of most food collected. This food blesses those in the area that are without during the holiday season. Past numbers have always been in Ultradent’s favor making them the winning team. (2010 numbers: Ultradent 68,549 points, eBay 41,000 points)All proceeds and food go to the Utah Food Bank.

Japan Tsunami Relief (March 2011)

Ultradent employees worked within the workplace community and Ultradent subsidiaries to rally behind Japan dentists and citizens who were affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Donations were gathered and sent via Human Resources to Japan.
